"Old men like cherry cordial, right? I made this for you-" Perona @piratebento holds out a single cherry cordial cupcake for Benn that she made personally for no reason at all. None. Whatsoever.

The gift was a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. Though it did cause his brow to raise as he looked over her. "Thank you, Perona. I will quite enjoy this." He didn't often do anything for valentine's day, but he had to admit being thought about was charming.

He had nothing to return to her for the favor, and so he could only offer his thoughts. "Perhaps you are more mature than I first thought." Even though she did comment on his age right out of the gate. But he was used to that at this point. It was almost a badge of honor.

❝ hm? ❞ dark, curious hues peer down at the tiny figure, pulled away from whatever text he was reading in the moment. the request comes as a mild shock, but indicated only by a raise in moria's brow and slightly parted lips that reveal a glimpse of razor-sharp teeth. was purchasing the tea and table set not enough? now she wanted him, the beastly, scary-looking pirate captain to play with her? he blinks, paying little attention to the warmth that rises in pale cheeks. but as he finally finishes processing the request, his mouth spreads into a wide, toothy grin and he releases a jovial sound — a terrible laugh. the towering monster stands, marking his place in the book and setting it aside.

Another day, another act of complete clownery by the fool himself. It was somewhat amusing at first, the buffoonery in a very curious way uplifting, though there was only so much circus music, bad jokes and a loud and bright environment one could really tolerate before snapping.

Mihawk was in a particularly foul mood from the very early morning. His patience with the clown was running out, not to mention that with every single thing Buggy did brought him on even thinner ice than before. Oh how he fantasized of making the idiot suffer properly for once, letting him know just how bad he could have it if he continued on tainting everything the Cross Guild was standing for. And to think that he was a Yonko on top of that. A part of him was almost certain the Marines were ridiculing them at this point.

As things were, it turned out that right then and there, any time was a good time to start drinking. Uncorking a bottle of red, the swordsman let it air out a bit before pouring the alcohol in two glasses before carrying them both to Perona. Hand extended, he offered her one of them before taking a seat next to her.

❝ Do you regret joining in on... ❞ he motioned towards the massive tent. ❝ ... whatever this turned out to be, or is it just me who's regretting it? ❞

The event they had to go to involved some sort of ass-patting from the higher ups to other higher-ups. He had been on thin ice for a while, especially after some choice words he had for those pencil pushers whose only job it was to keep their seats warm. And so, as a way of trying to at least earn himself some good will (not entirely his decision, he had been talked into this and mildly threatened by the women in his life) he agreed to go to a stupid Marine charity banquet.

Of course, formal clothes were something he lacked. He'd spent so much time on the Grand Line hunting pirates, fighting pirates, chasing pirates, that any clothes he hat that weren't military-issued navy pants and his Marine jacket didn't really fit anymore. Meaning, he'd spent so much time doing his damn job that he didn't have time for shopping.

It was as good a day as any to remedy it, on this shopping center in the Grand Line. He stood there in shorts and boots. The collar on his teal shirt was opened and the rest was lazily buttoned. He was waiting with his hand in his pocket, cigars in his mouth. Not many seemed to recognize him but he noticed some pirates.

If he hadn't made a promise, he would have gone after them. Maybe afterwards, if Hina was up for it.

"Mihaaaaawk!" Perona's voice rang out from the dining hall where she had set out plates of piping hot homemade spaghetti and meatballs, complete with garden-grown vegetables and a large glass of pino filled nearly to the top. When she didn't answer right away she called again. "Mihaaaaaaaawk! I made dinner! Without your help this time!!!!"

Why did everyone think it was acceptable from waking him from his nap? Mihawk slowly walks towards the dining room that seemed yards away in his giant castle, not being too caring if he makes others wait. This was his place. Not the other way around.

The only thing that caught his eye was the glass of one of his most expensive wine, trying to save that for special occasions. Not for a mere dinner. But he doesn't have the energy to argue. His 'houseguest' that refused to leave for some odd reason didn't really know how to ask him before taking something that he had been keeping for a long time.

Mihawk sighs, drawing his chair and ignoring the food, settling the glass of wine in his hand as he sat down at the table. He notices Perona's eyes looking for approval but there was not going to be any. Not until he settles down from being irked, even if his face is the default neutral stare.

"I suppose we aren't going to die of starvation. That's a start in the right direction". He can't remember when he agreed to cooking lessons either. How troublesome.

Entering the bar in shorts in a tank, something she picked up from the local market to blend in, Hina took one look around the room and nearly turned around. Of course the bar was occupied by pirates. Taking the one empty chair, the off-duty marine reached for a fresh cigarette and crushed it between her teeth before speaking without so much as a sideways glance at the red-haired man. "Buy me a drink. Blackcage is off duty and I don't have the patience for your lot otherwise."

The drink in front of him was already half empty. It was a relaxed atmosphere in the bar, despite the plethora of pirates around him. It was one of those days he didn't go as incognito as he perhaps would have normally - his hair was uncovered, people had already stared in awe or fear or a weird combination at his scars, but no one had bothered him.

Until now. The woman was a force that was for sure. The way she came into the building, the pirates forgetting about the emperor and focusing on the woman who they all probably recognized as a Marine. Himself as well. At her demands, he let the corners of his lips flick upwards in a grin.

Well, how could he say no to a demand like that? "Of course, Rear Admiral. What can I get ya? Top shelf stuff I suppose? Whiskey? Rum?"

Comedically he didn't even budge.

She had it coming, the smack at the back of her head. Almost instinctively as she mentioned his sister, something she developed a nasty habit of doing, he'd passed down his deliberate reaction. Normally others talking about Mirajane were fine, but when he realized what intentions lay behind said namedropping, the tone shifts. "It's because I know what you're thinking!" The audacity to call her out. "Mirajane's off-limits. End of story."

The over-protective little brother's reaction may seem unwarranted to most, but within his scope it was all very deserving. "Go pick up some other cute girl!" Someone who's at your level!

caramel hues side-eye the woman as she enters and makes her demand. acrid, white smoke is released from between the vice admiral's teeth in a slow puff, joining the hanging haze in the man's office. and without question, gloved fingers are unclasped from resting behind smoker's head, arms are dropped to his sides, and hands are tucked into pants pockets as he stands.

❝ fine. ❞ his expression is unwavering, stern as always. but truthfully, smoker had been watching the minutes of the last painstaking hour tick by, waiting for the week to finally come to an end. he really wanted that drink — or two, or three. ❝ yer buyin' the first round. ❞
