I also learned that I'm surprisingly lenient with most things, but when it comes to writing in foreign languages, that kinda irks me. Unless it's an easter egg, don't expect me to Google Translate your muse, please. Embarrassment was a given, considering he woke up to something he wasn't exactly used to. That said, he steeled himself enough on the night before that whatever happens happens -- only to be on the receiving mercy of Laki's surprisingly effective sense of humor.

It didn't stop him from turning red, though. "O-Oh!! If ya can, that'd be great!!" He shot back, awkwardly, with a thumbs up.

Better find his way back into his trousers quickly and help her out, huh.

Definitely took him a little long to notice. But Elfman's been around for a while now. If anything, it looked to the Man as if this lizard-for-brains' been gone much longer than he has, or rather; both were gone in paralleling times. Either way, there he was-- And he wasn't going anywhere for the time being.

Laki's been part of the guild for a good while now. Having at least got acquainted with most of the guild (if not outright befriend them), her personal value to them was apparent to everyone. Yet, when surrounded by monstrously powerful wizards like Natsu, Erza and his own sister, it's clear how one could become discouraged. Most often shrugged it off, and did the best they could regardless. It must have been the same for her, then. And while she wasn't quite despairing, not enough was a demon hard-fought.

Elfman's eyebrows furrowed some into a deeper frown. He knew what it was like to feel as if lagging behind on what he'd set out to do. She was right in that aspect to bring it up with him. Though, at the very least she was assuring herself that the time will come. Still, "That's not true," It was much his job to defy that logic as it was any other close friend.

"Yer already strong enough, Laki!" He assured, despite his expression unchanging; "Yer one of Fairy Tail's best! It's when yer feeling scared, or weak, that risin' up matters the most... That's what it means to be a Man!!" So, cheer up. "Today is when you're brave enough. Just decide it!"

SHOCK.

He hadn't intended to listen. He really hadn't intended to be as attentive as he was, but something about her voice drew him in. This has happened before; whenever she spoke up, her tonality - even when soft, dismissive or not all too loud, seemed to gather his attention even when it shouldn't. Somehow his mind tricked itself into catching on to what she said, even when it wasn't dire or important. That would be the only reason he could catch her saying something like that with as shallow a voice as she offered.

Right away, his face flushed red. Did she mean that? Was she aware that this is what she said? He couldn't tell. He couldn't even begin to tell, but the thoughts in his head raced into a turmoil. So many, swirling around the idea; just hoping to find any confirmation solid enough that she has/hasn't meant it.

"Ever...!" His own voice toned into a whisper, as to not wake her up. -- In the first place, was she even asleep? Her breathing was slowed and shallow and her full weight rested against him; but the murmurs from her seemed almost too coherent. Slow as they came, it was like they were directed outright. Did she mean it? Or was it sleep-talking?

And more importantly. Where do you go from here?

She was trying to tell him something. She was trying to call for help, undoubtedly. Otherwise she wouldn't say something like that.

But it's the way she said it -- rather, the words she chose. Unfortunately, Elfman wasn't much for poetic thinking; and the message has been missed on him easily. The general idea was... There, at least. But without deciphering what it means, his chances to nail the hit were slim. He would, of course, try to do something, but.

"Ravyn." What exactly could he do? "If ya need help, just say so. But a Man can't help ya if yer not clear about it. ...Who's got you down?"

The moment the thick guy in front of her seized the cake she had put aside played in front of Haruko's eyes like three short sequences -- he smiled, he took it, and then he made his order. And just as quickly, Haruko's smile faded, her eyes glowered, and suddenly she was snatching the cake away from the guy's grip --

Or, trying to. He really was strong, and all she could do was pull one side of the box with a frown.

"No you don't!" She exclaimed.

She noticed the whole cafe had gone suddenly quiet at her loud protest, eyeing between her and the giant on the other side of the counter. Her cheeks burnt but she didn't let go of the box.

"This cake has been reserved for a client!" She insisted, giving the box an energetic tug. "You may order another one, but not this one, I'm sorry."

Although her tone was not sorry at all...

The moment he made his order, he was yelled at. He was attacked. Attacked! Who in their right mind attacks a customer over something they're definitely entitled to get?? Has service culture these days fallen this badly that even in Japan, THE COUNTRY of service and honor, it's that bad??

In his shock, the box was snatched out of his grip; an easy consequence of fumbling, that is - focus loss. And just like that, an argument ensued. Suppose taking this cake wasn't as easy as he thought, for whatever reason...

"Huh!? This was reserved for me!!" He demanded, not yet reaching with his hand to grasp it by force. It would only escalate things further if he did, though noting the clerkswoman's rude tonality and action -- all the while completely dismissing his actual order, mind you -- whatever patience he held coming there ran out quickly.

"I'm here ta take it, what's wrong with that!!?" This rude woman... At least she was being a Man by standing up to her beliefs, but it was not a Man at all to deprive him of what he was entrusted with taking!!

... ... In the first place, was it even clear that he was entrusted with that? Did he not say he was there to take it??

He was sure this guy wasn't around, this day. It was rare for Laxus to frequent the pub in the morning, considering his alignment and preference for luxury (and, obvious means of getting it). It's definitely on Elfman for not taking that into account, and yet.

"Laxus!!? You were here!!" The momentary shock in his tone apparent in some flinching, though quickly enough, he diverted back to his own pace; "Get this!! The pub's outta beer!! And we gotta get a Man to fill in, or Nee-chan's gonna get overwhelmed!!" A pub as popular as Fairy Tail's, out of beer? What are the odds?

Definitely wasn't used to hearing that in response to his wisdom pieces. Most of the time, people showed varying degrees of reactions --- most of which riddled with disapproval or confusion; and to that, he mostly replied with further anger or aggression. ...Depending on who it was, of course.

So for someone to suddenly show appreciation (whether genuinely or sarcastically didn't matter for now), held enough of an impact to have the hulk freeze, stopping his speech as his nigh-disbelief showed clear on his face; turning towards the manager (she was assumed to be a manager, most waiters and waitresses at least had some semblance of a uniform on) with a glint in his eye, before smiling stupidly; reciting yet another of his ideas, with newfound enthusiasm. "Yeah!! A Man isn't a Man if they're not a Man!!!" I promise this makes sense. In his head.

"Mh. Can't say that I have, but, what color is it, I can look around again, see if I can't find th'thing. Otherwise, I'll just pick yer lock 'nd all that."

She does wish he'd use a different descriptor than manly. Can omamori even look manly? She's not entirely sure but the guy clearly had an attachment to it beyond it being an ornament to his keys.

Ohh! She was willing to help? Good! "It's green!!" He announced, still frantically looking around; going as far as to duck down and attempt to peer beneath his own door, in the off-chance he left the keys inside. "Green with the Guts Kanji!! Ya can't miss it!"

根性. Truth is, he really wouldn't have resorted to picking his own locked door if possible. The idea of busting the door open by himself did come to mind, in the past. But so far, he was lucky enough to find his keys! ...This time though? Maybe duking it out with the landlord would be the lesser of eventual sacrifices... "Are ya sure ya haven't seen any!?"

This was the target? This guy was huge, HELL this roid-up bastard might have given Toguro a run for his money, a 𝙈𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙏𝙀𝙍 in every sense of the word. BUT HEY, it didn’t mean Yusuke was going to retreat anytime soon, in fact from the look on the ex-detective’s face there was an expression of pure excitement. Slowly Yusuke strolls forward in order to close the distance between himself and this rather large man.  ━━   ❝   𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐮𝐡.   ❞  A single finger reached into his ear and gently rubbed against its inner workings. 

He remembered what the mission was, a large beast-like monster that had been the cause for the destruction of a village in the South. There was something about this guy that made his own yokai blood come to a positive boil. “S’not everyday the targets approach me 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮.” Yusuke now kept both his hands into the pockets of his jacket. 

“Either way, we could skip t’ the fun part and throw fists, then AFTER I got you pinned down when the fight’s over yer gonna tell me why the hell you’d destroy an entire village.” That’s when he began cracking his knuckles.

Target, huh. Yep, he's been singled out.

Regardless of the reason why, Elfman could feel himself growing giddy. This man, regardless of his supposed age and stature, emanated power and strength that only made the giant wish for a prolonged match even more. This wasn't about winning or losing, it was about the very Manly idea of two fighters giving it their all, with their fists; and from how he phrased it, the guy was more than willing to give it a roll.

In response, the hulk couldn't help but bellow an enthusiastic, hearty laugh. Not one to shake the surrounding woods, not at all; just the loud voice of a thrilled, large fighter. "From the way ya talk, it sounds like yer confident yer gonna win. Well don't count me out before ya even sized me up!" Mirroring the gesture, Elfman began cracking his own knuckles in anticipation for a good fight. A couple easy shots off the bat, just to get a good feel for this guy's abilities... And then, he could evaluate how rowdy they can get.

"Dunno what's this about destroyin' a village, but if ya wanna fight, ya got a Man ta serve it to ya!!" He announced, already telegraphing the first shot as an arm was slowly, widely pulled back; before throwing a wide-arc lariat to kickstart their scuffle.

Yep. This was going to be good.

Did Elfman, or anyone else in the Guild, make her feel that way? "No way no one in the Guild wouldn't wanna know ya!" He added;

But there are two sides to everything. And while he wouldn't take it upon himself to be the one to bring her out to the open, perhaps he could have done better to cover that in his own area. Granted... Most of the time, the man had been occupied with the rest of the boys, or with his family. Naturally taking precedence over most others; and yet, if she came up to him with that complaint, naturally it had to do with him, right?

He wouldn't reply much more beyond that, for now. There was nothing to say. He'd let her explain herself, if she so needed.
