Deltora Headcanon: Family Heirlooms
I have a headcanon that Lief passed not just the Belt of Deltora to Princess Anna, but also 3 other heirlooms.
The first is the sword, Endon. The one made by his father. My headcanon for it is that it is unbreakable and never looses it’s edge, having been crafted by Adin’s heir in Adin’s forge. (it works really well with the diamond because of that, allowing the wielder to cut through stone)
The second is the cloak, Sharn. The one made by his mother. We already know it’s powers of concealment and camouflage.
The third is what I like to call the “Greystone Crown”. A new object, made by Lief, Barda, and Jasmine using each of their memory stones. Essentially, it is a simple silver crown with Lief’s memory stone embedded in it (which, as you might remember, also holds Doran’s memories). Lief made the thing himself in Adin’s forge, and it’s purpose is to grant important memories, such as the existence of the Pirrans, to each heir of Deltora, and also to give the Pirrans an easy way to contact the heir (i believe that since the Pirrans made the stone, they can contact the user if they all focus on it at once).
Further, as time goes on, the crown will store all knowledge of the Belt’s powers, which have yet to be fully explored, causing each king to be more powerful than the next. (For example, Lief only recently found out he could use the diamond and topaz together to gain strength from the will of the people during the full moon, and it’s possible a powerful enough king could use the opal to give him telepathy). It would store every single vision and prophesy the Opal has ever given. And it would give the heir the fealty of the Dragons.
Dragons believe names have power, much like the people of Dorne. I believe that after each of their tribes was reduced to one member, the tribes themselves actually adopted the name of that member, much like the Fitzfees of Dorne adopted the name of Fitzfee, the first dwarf, or the pirran tribes adopted the name of each of their chosen Pipers. Thus, the King or Queen of Deltora could simply call out the name of the Dragon Tribe (say, Veritas for Amethyst), and the dragons would be bound to answer in a similar way to how the Torans are bound in fealty to the King.
Also, when the crown is finally passed on after Lief’s death, Jasmine give’s anna hers and Bardas memory stones as well, so that Anna will have all the combat experience and herbal knowledge she needs for any future event. After the memories have been absorbed, the two stones are buried with Jasmine and Barda.
Everyone believes Lief made the stones themselves with his magic, much like the Dread Gnomes believe he turned Gellick into a tree with sorcery.
(on that topic, i believe the Dread Gnomes now use that tree to make their arrows, and call it the King’s Tree. Arrows made with it will fly swifter and pierce deeper than otherwise possible, allowing the gnomes to contend with the Vraal more easily. This is both because of the magic of the spring and because of the magic of all the gems under the tree feeding into it)
Also, a little on that, i believe that the reason why the Torans are able to wield so much power without their tribal talisman is because the oathstone actually allows them to draw on it’s power from far away, which is why they swore the oath in the first place.
