can you tell us a little about your fixation on controllers? it seems fun i wonder how it started
it spontaneously struck me one day. i needed a controller to play yakuza for the first time, so i bought a cheap knockoff ps5 controller off amazon. it sucked. i bought a better one. i was fascinated by the differences in materials, textures, triggers, buttons, sticks. they're toys, they're literal toys that make lights flash and sounds play. the most stimulating toy aside from like, a sex toy. but controllers occupy a fascinating unspoken niche in acceptable adult hobbies- they're one of the few literal toys that are considered normal for adults to play with regularly. they also all tell a story. any product made is a time capsule of not just the time it was made, but who made it, why, how, the reason it was sold, the culture that affected its design, etc... one silly little controller is not just fun to touch but can teach you about the material conditions that lead to its creation. even the shitty ones, controllers no longer sold from companies no longer in business, can teach you about the conditions of the world when it was made. controllers are a technology made by people for the exclusive purpose for playing. they're electronic and analog anthropology that make mario jump while they're at it. what's not to like?
