A couple evenings a week, Valerian would get together with Hedy for their ritual game of chess. The two were incredibly similar, and Hedy became the closest person that Val could call a friend in the Pit. Even if she liked to cheat.

But she never could beat Valerian. Val: Checkmate Hedy. You know you shouldn't be throwing away your pawns so freely. Hedy: Eat me Valerian.

Mornings were for active skilling and in the evenings the teens got some free time to play games and hang out.

Doctor Ami would make regular visits to her clinic to check on the kids and make sure everyone's vitals were in order.

And so things went in the Pit. Surprisingly, Valerian found that he fell into the routine quite easily. And much to his dismay, he actually began to enjoy himself.

Val: And if someone wanted to go about leaving the Pit? Solara: Well you'd have to graduate. Only the strongest get promoted out. Val: Promoted?

Khalid: Every six months the facility puts on this big fight between the students. It's a total bullshit, and free entertainment for the higher ups, but the winner gets a meeting with the Director and then we never see them again. Probably set up as some sort of special agent

Khalid: It's the only way out, unless you're taking weekly trips upstairs like Test here. Test: //hiss// Val: So that's it then. Solara: Essentially. Beat out everyone else, get promoted, you get to leave the Pit. Val: Sounds easy enough.
