A Tear In The Fabric (2024, 2026)

I finally figured out how to finish this // sometimes, some ideas just won't quite quit // I painted this when she was sick // it's about the tear in her fabric.

It's my favorite piece. My favorite place. My favorite person, and a source of constant inspiration. And a reminder to me that it all can be taken from me in an instant, so I should cherish every moment.

It's a James Webb-inspired scene, a trans pride flag, blended with a (realistic) human heart and a supermassive black hole (representing a heart attack), 253x160, originally 40 colors but at some point along the way I saved it with dithering and fucked the composition up, tried to recover it, etc. Swapped between Photoshop and Pixelorama during this, and used it to learn Pixelorama.

It's also the header image for my blogs and social media sites. It's because it's about my god(s), as it were. My wife, the universe itself, the long nights staring at the stars, the relentless search within yourself for who you really are, the sense of loss, the fear that I might lose her.

And in this image are stars and planets that only exist in our shared story. Places only I know, or only she knows. There's a star exploding, a rogue comet, an infinite loop in spacetime, a pulsar, a domain governed by a sad spirit made of blue, and many other things.

I love you. You know who you are. 🤍

These are my first attempts at animating :) The little guy is named Dino and is featured (exactly as he is here) in a game I made with my partner.
