Super Animal Royale Gameplay Trailer
Pixile Studios presents Super Animal Royale, a top-down multiplayer survival shooter for up to sixty-four adorably murderous Super Animals. Engineered to charm and trained to kill, Super Animals are cute enough to make you go “Aww” and deadly enough to make you go “Ahhhh!” Select your favorite from a menu of foxes, pandas, kitty cats, and other bloodthirsty beasts. Parachute into the ruins of an ill-fated safari park and fight off a lethal barrage of bullets, explosives, and silly dancing. Enjoy carefully balanced run and gun gameplay combined with an intuitive fog of war system that restricts a player’s view to line of sight, allowing for sneaky, strategic play. Explore a beautiful 2D world, inspired by classic top-down adventure games. Cut tall grass and loot abandoned structures in search of the guns, explosives and health juice you’ll need to reach the top of the food chain. Players can play for free in the Alpha by signing up at AnimalRoyale.com and also pre-order the game for $14.99; a regular timetable of games will run from now to October when the game will arrive on Steam Early Access for PC / Mac.
If you've ever released a mobile app or game yourself, you've probably been asking yourself this same question through the whole Flappy Bird saga: how the hell did this game get to #1 in the App Store...
This is what Michael thinks pushed Flappy Bird to the top of the charts. Check out his post on VentureBeat.
Michael got the best birthday present ever this year from our biggest fan, Tayvian! Check out all of his awesome fan art of Skuttlers, an Angry Fish, and a Crabtrap.
Game of the week 2/1/13 -- Stratosphere: Multiplayer Defense
I'm always intrigued by games that take a new approach to multiplayer, and the idea of a "real-time, interactive board game" immediately grabbed my attention. Designed specifically for the iPad, Stratosphere: Multiplayer Defense may not look like much at first glance, but its two player mode makes it one of the more unique tower defense games in recent memory.
Pixile Studios, a young duo with a focus "on multiplayer experiences that can be shared face to face" has added a new strategic layer to the tower defense genre. By enabling players to both attack and defend, the choice of how to best allocate your resources becomes a tricky balance. And the experience is inherently intense, as you're literally sitting next to your opponent trying to overcome each other's defenses.
While the single player mode quickly loses its luster, that's not the point: this is a party game that shines when you're facing off against a friend. And don't forget to raise the stakes by placing a "stratobet" -- a cleverly designed option allowing players to write embarrassing messages that are automatically posted to the loser's Facebook wall or Twitter feed when the battle ends.
