I don’t think anybody’s made this comparison yet but someone just DM’d me about how riptides are known for sweeping up, grabbing someone, and pulling them underneath the current by surprise, and then there’s Percy holding up riptide to grab Annabeth and pull her down into the stairwell by surprise. Hello???? The parallels are PARALLELING

The Percy Jackson franchise has had a few designs for Riptide over the years, but my personal favorite will always be the design it had on the original cover art:
It's an unusual design that has a completely straight edge, making a very narrow blade that comes to a fine point; a lot of ancient greek swords had curved "leaf shaped" blades, or the ones that were straight tended to have thicker blades until ending with a more rounded tip.
The interesting thing is that I always assumed this design was not historically realistic, but it actually could be! Some ancient greek swords really did have that kind of very thin blade with a straight edge from the guard to the tip.
I've seen the terms "Mycenean Rapier" and "Greek Rapier" used interchangeably to describe this kind of sword.
Now, it was retroactively confirmed, on the page, that Riptide does have a "leaf shaped" blade like the official art.
But I just wanted to go ahead and state my love for the original design.
I've been wondering what Percy's mortal version of riptide would look like...

I went on translater and put in Anaklusmos and it said it means effusion! Percy’s sword is actually called effusion! That means Percy’s sword is based off a organ!
