I’ve seen so many people call Reyna “overly harsh” and “OOC” for laughing at Lester, and I feel like a lot of people are missing a lot of what actually happened:
1. There was no malice in Reyna’s laughter, she didn’t do it to hurt Lester. She literally goes up to him after the battle to explain and to thank him for inadvertently helping her understand the “curse,” and she clarifies that she’s not turning him down for being an unattractive mortal immediately after the laughter, she just really doesn’t want to date anyone (an important message to send to girls: you’re allowed to just not want to date anyone, you don’t need a specific reason or excuse to say no when someone asks you out.)
2. She had absolutely no reason to say yes. She knew people who get romantically involved with the gods tend to meet terrible ends, she had no emotional connection to Lester, she figured she would never see him again after a few days, etc. Also keep in mind this is a god who’s known for falling for a different person every three seconds. The idea of HIM being the one to stay steady in Reyna’s life after people like Jason couldn’t is pretty ridiculous.
3. It really was completely out of nowhere from her point of view. Apollo had been staring at her weirdly for a while and acting scared and jumpy, she was probably low-key worried that he had betrayed Rome or cursed her while he was a god or something. When she asked him what was going on it was clear that romantic interest was the farthest thing from her mind, so the reveal that the only thing that Apollo had been worried about was whether he was supposed to date her, she would’ve been incredibly relieved/ surprised, which translates to laughter a lot
4. She’s mostly laughing at herself. Seeing Apollo make such a fuss about Venus’ prophecy in the middle of much bigger drama with impending war made her realize that she didn’t care and it was dumb to worry so much. It was a really freeing moment for her to realize that one of the biggest factors weighing her down didn’t actually matter at all. She had worried for so long and the problem was just instantly gone.
