Tonight at 8:30 we play Muddy Roots Festival in Cookville TN. Here’s a review. LT #Repost @nolabelaudiodetroit with @get_repost ・・・ Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds were so killer last night!!! Strange, intense, hypnotic: it was like music from some far-off, retro-futuristic planet; some distant marble, that all us rock & roll weirdos originally hail from. It felt like coming home. With a flourish of a glittered cape, the dramatic sweep of a hand, or a widening of a darkened eye, Kid Congo captivated the packed room, while the band, drenched in sweat, sizzled with focus and mastery. Somewhere in the vast sea between surf rock and avant-garde jazz, somewhere in the infinite space between music and performance art, and somehow, an unholy union between Vincent Price and Prince, lies Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds. Records and videos simply cannot do them justice. It’s a band to be experienced with all your sharpened senses, before the alchemy of Kid Congo strips you of them. Rock and roll as it’s meant to be; bizarre, raucous, and dripping with fun.
