It was 2 AM. Like always, it was raining sheets in Po Town, beating the roof of the old mansion. Everyone in there was probably asleep.

Except one person. The unfortunate Champion, who was stuck wide awake. And knowing her luck, even Guzma would be asleep, and she would be alone with her thoughts until late morning.

She was used to not sleeping. She’d been cursed with insomnia since her Hoenn Champion days, and she could usually stay awake for a few days before crashing and starting over. And somehow her body had gotten used to that.

But this was different. This not-sleeping wasn’t insomnia, it was nightmares. Terrible, nonsensical nightmares that kept her up every night. They felt so real and yet she knew they’d never happened to her, and yet...They kept her up at night. 

Not every night, but only when she seemed to really, really need sleep. Wonderful.

“...Are you awake?” She ventured to ask, even if she figured the answer would be silence.

“Funny you should ask.” Even in the dark, she could hear the smirk in his voice. “Why are you awake?”

“Why are you?” 

“I asked first.”

Jackie rolled her eyes and sighed. “Nightmares.” She admitted. “Nightmares, in conjunction to insomnia.” God, that sounded really, really pathetic.

“Heh.” Guzma laughed quietly, and tugged the tired Champion closer. “Funny you should say that, too, because that’s why I’m up.”

Huh. That’s not what she expected. Big bad ol’ Guzma, getting nightmares like she does? What a surprise.

Maybe they were a little bit more alike than she thought.
