The PL-600 model android is made to be a domestic family assistant. It is the only model of android that has two characters that we see enough of to get a feel for them. You can find other versions of almost everyone, but you don't get the feel for their personalities like these two, and I feel that's very intentional.
What's interesting about it is that the PL-600 is the only model acknowledged to be in an irreversible market decline. It's not clear if any other model is being as quickly replaced as the PL-600, which is being given up in favor of the AP-700. It's never explained why they are replacing them, but I think it can be assumed that there is either an issue with their software or maybe they turned deviant too easily and the humans just want them gone quickly.
Naturally, both Daniel and Simon had different reactions to their situations. Daniel became angry, feeling betrayed by the ones he thought considered him family. You can see the anger in his face, his gaze is cold and harsh. He let's his emotions get the better of him, even to the point of attacking and killing the family he worked for.
Simon never explained why he ran off, but I think it's pretty safe to assume it was a similar reason. He sees things differently, he seems to have a pretty bleak outlook, bluntly telling Markus "We didn't ask for this, but now we have to deal with it." His focus is always more on running, on hiding, on keeping everyone safe. He doesn't want to take chances, and yet, he grows very attached to his comrades, and to Markus, and will lay his life down for them.
They both have different ideals, despite possibly coming from similar situations. On the roof when trying to convince Daniel not to jump, Connor tells him it's too late, he doesn't need to take anymore lives, that he's already done enough (something to that effect) but Daniel answers that they gave him no choice. He believes that killing them was the only way. But Simon, when injured and unable to jump with the group from the top of Stratford Tower, facing down the barrel of the gun in Markus's hand as he tells him he had no choice, says that there is always a choice.
They are two sides of the spectrum. You have Daniel who has given up, who has nothing left to fight for. He'd already lost the family he thought he had found. But Simon believes in freedom. Even if it means hiding in the dark, as long as they are free from that pain, nothing else matters. If a fight can be avoided, he will avoid it.
It's just really interesting to see that the androids really are their own people, with their own will and wishes, despite everything programmed into them.

The PL-600 model android was developed as a family domestic assistant after the success of the AX-400. The PL-600 was made to be able to take care of every member of the family in the same ways the AX-400 could care for children. It was programmed to do chores, to cook, to clean, run errands, and be like another member of the family.
With other models of androids working around the house successfully, Cyberlife was confident they had made the perfect domestic assistant. Unfortunately, just months after it was released, there began to be negative feedback for the android. Many reported their android would become attached to one member of the family and would not obey any order from any other. Some have even said they sent their android to pick up food for the house, the kids from school, or another simple errand and the android would return home an hour later without anything.
