Yesterday, I went on a road trip travelling north from Barcelona.

I decided to take in the early part of the afternoon by visting the charming town of Vic.

Vic is the capital of the shire Osona and is roughly 70km from Barcelona.

It is often refered to as the city of saints and it is not difficult to see why.  I walked round the historical centre and frequented at least ten churches, some named after saints that were born there.  The cathedral is charming and less touristy than those I have seen in other places, to which I enjoyed.

Plaça Major (the main square) is amazing.  The architecture is unique and diverse, but more importantly it was a joy to see so many Catalan flags hanging from the buildings.  Everywhere I went, it was Catalan that was spoken.  Usually when I attempt to speak it in Barcelona I either get a Spanish or English response.  The accent is also very different to what I have heard around Barcelona.

There are also quite a few charming wee shops and boutiques, cafes, restaurants, pastisseries (with gorgeous selection of cakes) and forns de pa (baker).

Vic is a place to be explored.  I recommend all visit if they gain the opportunity.  I am only surprised it has taken me so long to visit.  I would rate it in my top 5 towns in Catalunya.
