#authorlifemonth today is about #inspiration. “Where do you get your ideas” is the most common question I am asked. One answer: I get my ideas by slamming different ideas together at high speed. This hodgepodge of pictures represents some of the ideas behind my cli-fi political thriller #TheScorpionRules. I grew up in Nebraska (the road) near The Strategic Air Command, watching the plane called the Looking Glass circling overhead, ready to launch the nukes if the ground posts were wiped out. I have some thoughts about peace through terror, and emotional connections to that prairie sight line. I also once tried to write an Time travel book about the legend of Gil Pérez (wiki article). It necessarily contained Aztecs, and I became fascinated by the flower wars and the role of the divine child sacrifice. I ditched the book but kept the kids. And the eerie shock cavalry with wings — the Husars — we’re excised from #plainkate but found a home in a post warming, transhuman future. Right now I am writing something inspired by radio telescopes, small town funeral homes, and a Mad Magazine cartoon. It’s a comedy.
