Happy birthday to Arjen Lucassen (3.4.1960)
The horse is out of the barn 🤠 I made ANOTHER comic. Don't ask me why does this keep happening, I really don't know either.
This time, for Arjen Lucassen and Robert Soeterboek's new (old) project, Plan Nine. It was a spontaneous idea from Robert after seeing something I did (I'm guessing it was the Universal Migrator comic), like "why don't we make a comic?", and Arjen told me, and of course I asked him if he was 100% sure because I would ABSOLUTELY do it. T'was a pleasure to work with Arjen again (...but when am I NOT working with him, is the question), and this time with Robert, too.
It was a lot of fun making this, and I had to illustrate basically everything artists hate: backgrounds, buildings, cars, motorcicle, a mule (which I guess is horse adjacent)... It's 22-ish pages, telling a short story for each song, and I may be biased, but I do believe it enriches the listening experience. It's available for pre-order in the Mascot store, and it's released on May 17th along with the album, so... no reason to not get it!
IT'S OUUUUTTTT!! I had the immense pleasure and honour of illustrating the new Lucassen & Soeterboek's Plan Nine videoclip for the new single "Ice on Fire", check it out!! Worked real hard on this one, if you look closely, you can probably see my tears and feel my back pain in some animations.
Happy Plan Nine and Ayreon release day!! Here's the first page I got to do for the Long-Lost Songs comic, for the song "Doctor Robert's Medicine Show", to celebrate. It has a mule. Enjoy.
If you got the comic, do let me know! And also what you think of it. And said comic isn't going anywhere... you can still get it here. You can also get it at the release show in the Boerderij in Zoetermeer on June 7th... and I will also be around, signing and doodling over stuff, and probably other duties.
Two of the pages I did for the Plan Nine comic, based off the songs Die With Your Shades On and The Preacher from the upcoming album The Long-Lost Songs.
I wasn't joking about the motorcycle.

Plan Nine
Plan 9 is one of those rare reimaginings that works. From the first trailer, it reminds me of the 80s remakes like the Blob or the Fly that would take a concept, throw in some homage, and then run their own way with it using modern techniques. It’s far more a re-imagining of the story then simply re-making it for a contemporary audience. Plan 9 takes an interesting approach, I’ve always viewed it…
