#PlaneFacts Always wondered how strong and powerful the new kid in @singaporeair - SQ22’s engine is? With 22 fan blades and 68 turbine blades, this RollsRoyce engine is the most efficient large aero engine flying in the world today. The fan stands at 118 inches in height and draws in up to 1.3 tonnes of air every second at take-off. #DidYouKnow that each of the engine’s 68 high-pressure turbine blades generates around 900 horsepower per blade – similar to a Formula One racing car! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo87fY4BYNd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kaxt6cmnvm0q
#DidYouKnow that the nose landing gear of the A350 ULR is used to steer the aircraft? Just like our front-wheel driven cars! I joined Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Singapore Airlines staff at their ramp inspection of the new A350-900ULR last week. International aviation safety guidelines require airlines to ensure that their aircraft and crew are all kept in check. CAAS inspectors will verify the airworthiness of the aircraft, if it is fit for flight, by checking the aircraft exterior, documents such as defect log books and certificates, cabin interior and the emergency equipment. The weight and balance (that’s why all check-in luggage are weighed and there’s a restriction on hand luggage) information of the aircraft is also reviewed as it affects aircraft performance during the long-haul flight. #PlaneFacts #AviationSafety https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo1VX1phLor/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nxobenp0o6di
SQ22, the world’s first Airbus A350-900ULR aircraft, will be taking off from Changi Airport later tonight to Newark Airport in New Jersey. Being a long-haul flight of over 18 hours, the aircraft was designed to provide ample comfort with its quieter cabins, softer lighting and more comfortable cabin pressure to minimise jet lag. With 161 seats, there is ample space, providing greater comfort for non-stop flights. The staff from Singapore Airlines, Changi Airport and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore all put in a lot of effort to ensure a smooth maiden voyage from Changi. I will sharing in subsequent posts how our safety inspectors play a part behind-the-scenes, to ensure that passengers have a safe journey on board SIA A350-900ULR. #PlaneFacts #AviationSafety https://www.instagram.com/p/Boy-yJgBGgV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=z1uuut30x8b6
