but what do you imagine such a story would be like if we ever got to making it.

Depends on where you set it. If you're going for a feel close to that of Project Wingman / Frontline 59, the PDF would already be fairly competent, if maybe not equipped to the same standards as the regular Imperial Guard (the Cascadians in PW having essentially been a PDF equivalent before they rebelled, and they had everything from aircraft carriers to armored brigades to airships).

Of course, a hyper-competent PDF would probably be more along the lines of the Ultramar Auxilia, being better than a lot of Guard regiments.

If you want a real underdog story, though, a more typical PDF unit would be in order.

I was chatting with a Genestealer enthusiast, yesterday, about options for a superheavy detachment to accompany his cult uprising. Rare as they’re meant to be, Baneblades are a bit too fancy and don’t fit the narrative, he complained; so it’s fortunate that I just happened to have the Macharius I’ve been finishing up handy.

If you didn’t infer from their role in Siege of Vraks, the Macharius Heavy Tank is the perfect choice for your xenos subversion, seditious movement or planetary rebellion. It lacks much of the more extreme ornamentation found on the Baneblade, so it’s easier to profane in a style appropriate to your uprising’s own unique idiom.

More importantly, they’re more common in the fluff, relying on fewer of the exotic STCs necessary to construct the Baneblade. While a fairly late addition to the Imperial armory - mass production only beginning on Lucius in 852.M41 - any manufactory that can produce a Leman Russ can produce a Macharius.

Like the Malcador, already a mainstay of local garrisons, it’s easy enough to imagine the Macharius in common use among Planetary Defense Forces all across the Imperium; ripe for the taking by an enterprising revolutionary.

Homeworld: Forge-world Agripinaa

Agripinaa is a forge-world that supplies arms to the Cadian gate section. The Agripinaa Home Guard is a planetary defense force, with three most notable regiments as the 2nd, 65th and 197th which, after the 13th black crusade have been documented in records as missing in action. In addition to a planetary defense force, Agripinaa in being a forge-world raises it’s own skitarii legion.
