project of the weekend: plank-board

Zach and I were hanging out this afternoon, bored as fuck, when I proposed the idea of building a long board. Now, I feel the need to say that I think long boards are one of the most douchebagerrific items that anyone can own. I find everything about them to be generally stupid.

So why build a longboard then? Irony. And besides, this is plank-board-- it's better then the average longboard.

So what am I using to build this monstrosity?

A 35" long piece of maple (10" wide)

The trucks & wheels off of a $9.99 Walmart skateboard (just like the pros!)

Spray Paint (Red and black, sucka!)

Sand paper (to make it smooth)

Imagination

The plan to assemble it is simple:

Sand the fuck out of the entire board, paying special attention to the edges.

After sanding, drill holes for the trucks. (Attach trucks after painting)

Prime bottom of board with white primer

Paint board in a style similar to that of Eddie Van Halen's electric guitar (this one)

Attach trucks to skateboard

Optional: Find grip tape to attach to top; if unable to find grip tape, use a strong adhesive to attach sand paper to top of board for "grip tape". Then, paint over sandpaper with black paint. (I think I'm just going to leave it "natural" though)

Go skate on your new plank-board, champ.

This is a "shit" project, so naturally the labor put into building it is minimal. This isn't supposed to be a super high-quality product; it's supposed to be super freakin' fun though.
