So I am kind of excited right now... & to be honest I haven’t had this feeling for awhile— the excitement of planning something & anticipating how it all unfolds. I’m also a bit nervous since it’s going to be a surprise & I basically tell him everything, so here’s to hoping I don’t ruin it...
Where to begin... I guess I can start with the fact that my boyfriend & I have been dating since 2010 (almost 10 years). We’ve talked about marriage & the future, etc—& we’re basically on the same page. We want to get married, to each other, eventually. His mom likes me. My parents like him. There’s mutual pleasantness all around. We’ve also discussed how he’s taking my last name, & in exchange, he gets naming rights over our child(ren). People have asked us when we were getting married, & we’ve told them eventually— there really is no rush. We love each other & we like what we currently have. So why decide now you ask, well the idea & its possibility really just developed yesterday. I mean we’ve joked about it but I didn’t really think it can really happen. But yesterday, I overheard my coworkers talk about how long January has been & how it’s going to be a leap year this year, etc. One of my coworkers shared that she proposed to her husband on a leap year back in England & it was all very exciting (major newspaper was involved, etc). Upon hearing this, I was inspired! The idea seemed more plausible, doable... like hey I CAN actually propose to Juan since someone I know has done it. & besides, Leap Year only happens every 4 years, so if I don’t chose 2020, I’ll have to wait until the next one, or whenever Juan decides to do it. Despite its unconventional nature, I’ve seen a few videos of girlfriends proposing to their boyfriends & it’s nice! Ours is going to be intimate: just us. But if he wants to do the grand gesture as well, we’ll do his in front of our loved ones.

I have already made a reservation at a pretty fancy place: Five Crowns, for the anticipated day: Saturday February 29th. The excuse I told him to not plan anything that day is the promise of beef wellington— he’s been wanting to try it since our Gordon Ramsey binge watching days.
I’ve just started looking for his ring & boy it is difficult! What type of ring am I supposed to get?? For women, despite the many options, you can always narrow it down to the recipient’s taste & style. For men, there’s limited options. It really just goes down to material & fit I guess. Wish me luck...
