Are We Done Yet?
Halloooooo Teacher Man
So this week has really sucked. Three tests in three days, two of them fairly difficult and the other not too bad, but still. Although I cannot help but feel kinda encouraged after making it through this week. So another week in a row I have posted late, sorry, I will really try to be on time this next time. But I am super happy that you have responded to my question and I am gonna dig into it now.
So this past week I finished More’s Utopia and we have discussed it in class, but more about aspects of the Utopian society rather than the concept of a utopia. Your response was just what I was looking for out of my philosophical friend, a deep yet simple explanation outside of the box. And while you may think your “credibility” is non-existent now, I actually kinda agree with your analysis. In today’s perception of a perfect society, it’s all sunshine and rainbows and nobody is hungry and there is no war and everyone poops gold. And this is why people think a utopia is unattainable. But your simple shift in perspective can flip that. Here in America, and most first world countries, we really have nothing to complain about, and a perfect life is basically described in the Bible as one of strong relationships, challenging others and yourself to be a better version, and the basic human necessities met so that one does not have to worry. I think that sounds a lot like your and my lives. So here is to the “no place” we live in bud!!
Some big news this week, just like a half hour ago, my friends here and I officially sent in our application for the Mayfield and we really just hope that all goes well. Also, relating to Utopia, I have to come up with a business plan to either integrate into their lives or one to take from them and apply to the outside world. I was really struggling with this for a couple days, but found my breakthrough when my professor told us to get creative and try something difficult to argue. This took me back to our high school English days when we had to pick writing prompts, and I ALWAYS tried to pick one that was contrary to popular belief or argue a side that was unpopular and then put a twist on quotes. So my grand master plan is to “sell” the Utopians........are you ready for this? It’s awesome and WAY out there..........a robot mercenary army!!! It will make sense, I will send you the plan later, see if you want in on this ;) And I'm thinking of calling the company Robos ‘R Us. What do you think?
Now my answer to your question, no. That is why they are called ideals. Nothing ever turns out the way you plan or want it to go. That’s why science has IDEAL equations and circumstances, but they always have the REAL ones that are used. This is not to say that ideals are garbage and we should just go willy-nilly and vacillate one minute to the next. Ideals are like goals to me, or a set of key topics that I have an opinion on and I stick to, like practicing my faith. The Bible says that we should yearn to live like Jesus, but Jesus was perfect, PERECT. We cannot be perfect, it is as impossible as impossible gets. But that doesn't mean that we can’t aspire to be like him and slowly work on ourselves. It’s the same with an ideal. My ideal of a perfect exterior world is one where people are actually recognized and rewarded for their hard work and success. But that won’t happen. Yet I still live my life in a way that brings me pride because I work hard and try. I could be wrong about my idea of ideals (see what I did there?) but it doesn't really matter, as long as I matters to me.
So later today I'm going to a ball and I get to dress up in my suit with my friends and I hope it will be fun. Recommendation of the week: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. You only have a taste of some funny stuff they do (gotta pay the troll toll). Question for the week, if you and I could do anything at all, what would be your plan? It can be a business, lifestyle, or anything you want. So now that I have ruined your focus on the upcoming week with this question, have a great, productive week bud. Love ya, hermano.
The doctor is not in anymore
