How to Clean Plaster Molds

Plaster is a versatile substance that is commonly used for making molds and casts. It is easy to work with and the molds and casts usually have a long life even after multiple usage. Plaster molds can be made from different types of models which are then used to make metal and other casts. In fact, plaster casting is a popular metal fabrication process for making intricate and complicated solid shapes with high degree of dimensional accuracy.

Some of them are also quite old and this will be the last time I use them. earth bound sculpture. Talking the curls out of the mold. This part makes me happy. I stuck them together, and will fill them with paper paste and cut off the flanges before assembly. All of the parts of this sculpture are out of molds and ready. I hope to have the sculpture in two complete sections by next week. It will have to dry more and then I'll pour sealer inside of each part. I’ll admit it, I’m not much of a mold maker. I mean I make molds, I’ve made tons of resin bonded sand molds and rubber molds with fiberglass mothermolds. But plaster mold, yeah not to many under my belt. You know what is great though? I’m learning more about the process, and loving the results I’m getting from my successes and my failures. Always be willing to experiment and learn, keep pushing yourself for your art. earth bound sculpture. The last steps before drying is to clean them with a rasp and label them. Now they'll sit in the hot box until they're dry. earth bound sculpture. Pouring the last plaster piece of the head mold. I pour a bit and then use the brush to get the bubbles to come up away from the surface of the plasticine. Then finish the pour. As it dries, I use the mold knife to clean and make it flat. The mold is done! It needs to dry for a while. Let's celebrate.
