One of the most poignant moments of closure for Alpha during my playthrough of Choice of Robots...

Because I can’t get enough of the feels:

The possibility of his master’s death during surgery seemed to have sunk in, and the idea that Toue may not always be around had put Alpha in a somewhat melancholy mood. “I’m not young anymore, either, Master,” Alpha said. “You might not think of me as aging, but technology ages even faster than people. When you built me, people would throw away their computers after just four years. Their phones, after two.”

“Nobody is going to throw you away,” he assured Alpha.

“Without you, I’ll probably stop working. Someday.” Alpha looked off into the distance. “If I die, Master, do you think I will continue to exist after death in some form?”

"I don’t see why you couldn’t have a soul.”

“Really?”

“Certainly,” Toue replied. “Turing argued the same thing, back in that first paper about artificial intelligence. 'In attempting to construct such machines we should not be irreverently usurping His power of creating souls, any more than we are in the procreation of children. Rather we are, in either case, instruments of His will, providing mansions for the souls that He creates.’”

Alpha gave him a funny look. “You memorized all that, Master?”

“Is that so surprising?” he said. “I always did think of you as my child.”

Alpha's expression turned solemn. “If you die, I will destroy myself as well.”

“No. This is a part of your education, too--remember that everyone you meet must face losing loved ones someday.”

Alpha seemed to ponder this deeply. Apparently, this had never occurred to him. Finally, he let out a great wail. “But that means—this world is full of so much sadness, Master! How does it keep functioning?”

“We adapt, Alpha,” Toue said. “And so can you.”

Trip doesn’t necessarily find sex to be a wholly intimate act, despite the fact that he doesn’t casually engage in it. He feels that most people are unworthy of interacting with nonsexually so it isn’t a priority of his to engage them on that level. He usually does so as part of an experience. Drinking, drugging or double-teaming someone with Virus mark his usual forays into casual intercourse, followed by a hot shower to cleanse him of their taint. He is very likely to find people who fit certain criteria and use them as necessary to meet his needs and impulsive desires. Sex is an enjoyable collection of physical experiences but nothing overly sentimental. He finds his intimacy in other ways.
