Sherlock Holmes’s Other Brother Part -2
A/N: Short “background story” to a fic I’m going to write later (I swear I will). Y/N isn’t actually a Holmes, but Sherlock considers him his brother.

Part -1 Part 1
“Y/N! Mycroft! Come play pirates with me!” A seven year old Sherlock ran at Y/N and Mycroft with a toy sword and a pirate hat on.
“Sherlock, no. I’m sure you have homework to do, and I know Y/N and I have a lot of homework as well.” Mycroft didn’t even look at Sherlock, he just kept writing an essay. “Besides, you’re not a pirate and imagination is useless. Put your brain to better use, brother.”
Sherlock’s face fell with every one of Mycroft’s words. Y/N looked at him incredulously and smacked the older boy’s head with a notebook. Mycroft locked eyes with Y/N, questioning what he had done wrong this time. Y/N wasn’t much younger, he was 12 and Mycroft was 14, but Y/N definitely acted just as old, if not older, than Mycroft.
“Sherlock, how about you finish your homework, and then I’ll play pirates with you.” Y/N smiled softly. “You can sit next to me while you do it.”
Sherlock immediately brightened up and scampered off to grab the small amount of schoolwork he had. Mycroft’s eyes followed the boy until he couldn’t see him anymore.
“Why are you encouraging him? It’s childish and naive to play pretend and dream of becoming a ruthless pirate. I am trying to be a good brother and help Sherlock grow up smart.”
“Well, Myke,” Y/N started, a salty undertone lacing his voice. “Sherlock is a child, of course he’s childish. Every child has an imagination when they’re younger. It’s healthy to play pretend and run around without worrying about homework. He’s seven, you can’t possibly expect him to just focus on school and learning. Besides, he’s smart already and he’s going to grow up to be smart.”
Mycroft opened his mouth, but Sherlock ran back in and pulled back the chair next to Y/N and climbed atop, smiling proudly at being able to sit with big kids, especially Y/N. Sherlock liked Y/N, he was nice to Sherlock and always played pirates with him. Y/N brought Sherlock treats that he made like cookies and in return Sherlock gave Y/N drawings of them as pirates on their ship. Y/N hung them on his fridge when he got back to his house.
Sherlock started working on his maths, they were supposed to be learning addition. Sherlock already knew addition, so he didn’t have to think that much about what he was doing as he did it.
“Why does Mrs. Summers spend so much time teaching us this, I already know it,” Sherlock mumbled at his paper.
“Most of the kids in your class don’t know it, Sherlock.” Mycroft mumbled back in the same monotone voice, what a pair. They were so alike, and they didn’t even know it. “This is new for them, but I taught it to you early.”
Sherlock grunted, barely even registering what Mycroft said as he rushed to finish his homework and play with Y/N. Y/N, on the other hand, was stuck on science homework. How was he supposed to know what type of chemical looked like crackers under a microscope? He skipped to the next question and had just started it before Sherlock shot off his chair and shouted “done!” before grabbing Y/N’s hand and pulling.
“I’m getting up, I’m getting up!” Y/N laughed. “Relax a little Bluebeard, ye landlubber.”

“Avast, ye scallywag!” Y/N popped up behind Mycroft. “Surrender yer plunder or face the consequences!”
Mycroft tried to look annoyed, but he couldn’t hide the amused smirk as he handed over a cookie he had just baked. Y/N broke the cookie in half and turned around to a snickering Sherlock. He bowed as low as he could and presented the cookie to the little boy.
“Bluebeard, your share of the treasure.”
Sherlock took it and shoved it into his mouth before running back outside. Y/N followed him with his half also shoved into his mouth. Mycroft could hear something along the lines of “no fair, you got a head start” but he couldn’t be too sure since the cookie muffled most of the sound. Mycroft shook his head and continued baking more cookies. He looked out the kitchen window to see Y/N falling backwards dramatically with Sherlock’s sword under his arm. As immature as the two of them were, he wouldn’t dare stop them from having so much fun.
