TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: In 2010, the world-premiere of Martin McDonagh's A Behanding in Spokane opens on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Christopher Walken, Zoe Kazan, Anthony Mackie and Sam Rockwell star in the play about a man who has been searching for his lost hand for more than 40 years.

TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: In 1949, Carol Channing blinks her big round eyes and warbles "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" on the opening night of the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at the Ziegfeld Theatre. It will run 740 performances and make Channing into an icon.

TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: In 1951, Audrey Hepburn makes her Broadway debut in Anita Loos' adaptation of Colette's Gigi, about the training of a beautiful young courtesan.
