Surprised to see people's reactions to the retrospect video saying you can play the games in any order. You literally can?

Like, I don't think there's any reason to as all of them are readily available now but playing them out of order really won't cause you as many problems as people claim it will. Some context for some characters will be missing, sure, but you'll still understand all of the important parts easily.

Personally, I started with AA4, then I1 and then the original trilogy and I didn't have the feeling that there was something fundamental I didn't understand about the first two, even with having all the context for my replays later, because the games give you enough context for what's important. Honestly, in some way I even appreciate having done it this way around. I was much more open to Apollo and Co without coming directly from T&T's ending and I essentially had two "first playthroughs" of I1, one without knowing anything about any of the characters and fanservice in the game and one with full context. I have so many fond memories of my "first first playthrough" of I1 that I really wouldn't want to miss. Plus it's the best proof I could have for stating that I1 really doesn't rely on fanservice to tell its story and is compelling completely on its own when you don't even realize there's fanservice.

Idk, I really don't see the issue with Capcom saying that.

Did you play the games out of order by choice or by accident

By circumstances, mainly. The first time I played the games I borrowed them from a friend of mine who had spontaneously bought one of them in used condition and enjoyed it so much that she bought the rest and recommended them to all of us. Another friend (who initially thought the game sounded so stupid) was already playing PW so I started AJ instead (assured that it'd be okay to start there because I usually don't go out of order like that and I didn't regret it). I think she was still playing it by the time I was finished but that was also around the time when I1 came out. I remember so clearly the day my first friend came into school with the game because she was so excited! She played it and then she immediately gave it to me to play it. (Which was a little challenging because it was the first one that was only available in English.) She also totally called Miles becoming my favourite character. Not sure how soon afterwards I started on PW and then the rest of the trilogy but pretty soon. I1 remained my favourite though and it was the first one I bought for myself just to replay it!

So I was fully aware that I was playing them out of order and I probably wouldn't have done it if I could've started with PW right away. But I preferred it over having to wait and I'd still do it the same way.
