Have you heard the song Particle Physics by Motion City Soundtrack that Patrick collabed/featured on? It's got strong Peterick vibes. It's also interesting that to hear Patrick's influence mesh really well with Motion City's typical bouncy depression.

okay so first things first, your ask is the first place i even heard about this collab, i've been slacking on my duties, THANK you for bringing this to my attention!

"bouncy depression" is such the right description of MCS. it's like technicolor arcade sad vibes, crying into your auntie anne's at the mall, coloring in your fingernails with sharpie. the lyrics are SO peterick! i feel like pre-hiatus pete would have come up with some of these lines, you need a phd to get me... i love hearing patrick's voice in the background of the track, like he's singing through time to old fob themes. i agree with you that it meshes surprisingly well! i am adding it to my omnibus peterick playlist as we speak.

Some time ago qpp was asking me about how the obsessing over fictional characters works, specifically whether it's more akin to being obsessed with a person or with a concept, and gave as an example "you wouldn't make a playlist for blorbo from your thesis".

So, naturally, I went and made a playlist for blorbo from my thesis.

This may have started as a high-effort shitpost/committing to the bit/saying "bet", but I did actually take it reasonably seriously, so cheat code to "why the fuck did it choose those songs":

songs that are about being different versions of the same person are because it's the same information compressed in different shapes

similarly any lyrics about transformation/changing shape/being trapped in a shape/etc

the ghost in the machine song also refers in my reasoning to the shared information that should exist across all the shapes

the labyrinth song is bc I'm currently working on trying to use a functor that basically runs the usual complex through other q shapes like a "thread"

songs about wanting to be wild/unknowable/avoid being pinned down because. Well. Yeah. But also with a thread of implication of someone thinking (singer) should be knowable/tameable

Also shout out to this other playlist by someone who isn't me that was my original example of "there are people out there making playlists for science concepts" and inspired my commitment to the bit.

playlisting about marco animorphs is so hard because he’s an absence. he’s negative space. the core conceit of marco animorphs is that there is nothing inside him preventing him from doing unspeakable violence. “i’m not ruthless. i just make the calculation, and then i add the morals in once i’m done.” (paraphrased, and badly so, i don’t remember this quote very well). marco is fascinating because he is willing to do anything if his goal is good (and his goal is, it is the actual highest moral imperative— save the world).

all i’m saying is marco heard elfangor say “<save yourselves and save the world>” in book 1 and he internalized that shit. all i’m saying is that edriss 562 raised him for a year of his life. all i’m saying is that in perfect inverse to edriss pretending she can have human empathy and taking shelter in controlling human mother, marco pretends he has shark ruthlessness and takes shelter in the all-consuming predator instinct. do you understand what i’m saying.

YOOO so this is crazy. Some 2 or so years ago, I started "playlisting" Lee Jiyeon's songs from her english profile from 70 to a 100 listeners. I posted it on reddit, and she got a boost of 200+ listeners. I was happy my experiment worked, used to kinda check the listener numbers, and it was stable in the 150 - 300 range. I was like haha nice and forgot it.

I ofc kept listening to her songs, but then I got into my 70s phase, so today after a long time I switch my 80s Playlist on and I go "oh, I used to check her listener numbers" and I click on her profile :

AND THE FIRST SONG IS A BSIDE FROM HER 4TH ALBUM???

I remember when she was at 70 listeners!!! I remember when no one even damn knew her except the ahjusshis!

And the fact that it is this absolutely beautiful and gorgeous ballad on top is such a cherry on the cake I NEED YOU GUYS TO HEAR THIS SONG AND CHECK THE ALBUM OUT PLEASEE
