It seems I can't get your tag right—

Vrains has been on my Brian a lot. And it’s the time of year the Merlin haunts me. And so I present to you a Vrains Merlin Au.

Yusaku is born with magic (his link sense in canon) in a world where practicing magic is a death sentence.

When he is 16 he is sent to live in Den City (Camelot) where he lives Kusanagi Shouichi. The castle cook. (We are switching up Gaius role here) and his little brother Jin.

Jin works as a servant in the castle and Yusaku came across him while he was being pushed around by the prince and his knights. Yusaku stepped in earning Jin’s admiration and Kusanagi’s thanks (leading to Yusaku living with them) but as the annoyance of the prince, Ryouken.

Prince Ryouken’s father lead the genocide of magic users for the past 18 years. He was raised to hate magic. He is also the leader of the kingdoms knights.

Later that week the kingdom is holding a celebration for the princes 18th birthday and the extermination of magic. They are attacked by an angry magic user and Yusaku saves Ryouken’s life. (Though no one noticed the magic being used)

This leads to Yusaku being appointed to the role of Ryouken’s manservant.

Anyways if you’ve seen the show you know how the story goes.

Yusaku (Merlin) is trying to keep the once and future king (Ryouken) alove so that he can bring peace to their kingdom. It’s his fate as the two are “two sides of the same coin.” He has to keep his magic hidden and there for never gets the credit for his heroic deeds. Though he and Ryouken do develop a deep relationship with one another.

Ryouken (Prince/King Arther) raised to gate magic but through his life struggles to unlearn the hate he was taught. Learns to care for his people and be a good and just king. Learned how to value people by building a deep bond with his servant, Yusaku. His closest and most important friend. One of the few people who have never betrayed him (or at least he thinks until he learns about the magic)

Kusanagi (Guam’s part 1) he catches Yusaku using magic very early in and vows not to tell anyone. Jin is a magic user to (more on that later) he can’t rat out Yusaku and keep Jin safe. He also doesn’t want to, Yusaku is a good person and the two grow close as they work behind the scenes to keep the kingdom safe. Kusanagi is one of the only people who knows what Yusaku does to keep the kingdom safe and how much he has sacrificed for Ryouken. He starts to see Yusaku as his other little brother and will do just about anything to keep Yusaku and Jin safe.

Jin (morgana) also a magic user. He is terrified of his powers and what will happen to him if he is ever caught. While Yusaku uses his powers to protect the kingdom Jin gets consumed by his own fear and manipulated by other to eventually become an enemy of the kingdom. He believes that I f the Kougami family is off the throne then the massacre will end. He doesn’t understand why his brother and friend don’t agree with him.

Specter (Leon/lancalot) one of the knights under Ryouken’s command. The two become good friends and for a long time he is Ryouken’s only other confidant outside of Yusaku.

Aoi/blue angel (Guinevere) a maid in the palace who becomes a good friend to Yusaku and eventually Ryouken.

Takeru (Gwain/Lancalot) meets Ryouken and Yusaku while they are in a mission away from the castle. He doesn’t know that Ryouken is the prince when they meet. He has a strong dislike of knight, lords, and the kingdom. And while he and Ryouken butt heads he gets along with Yusaku just fine. He ends up helping them and the kingdom not because he believes in the king Prince Ryouken may become but because he believes in his friend Yusaku. Later he becomes a knight, but while he swears loyalty to the crown both Ryouken and Takeru know that his loyalty is to Yusaku first and the kingdom second. He finds out that Yusaku has magic on their first and entire together and upon learning that a) the prince doesn’t know and b) Yusaku’s not sure if the prince would spare his life if he found out. Takeru made himself a promise to always have Yusaku’s back.

Ai - I’m honestly split. The Ignis might end up being the Druids. A group of Magic users that believe that Yusaku is the greats magic user ever and will work with the once and future king to bring peace. Or he might be the bitter and angry dragon that is trapped under the city. Acting as a guide for Yusaku.

Honestly I like firewall dragon as the dragon and ai as a Druid who is loyal to yusaku but is also angry at the death of so many of his people.
