What if Yugioh Vrains took place in the pokemon world? What if all the Yugioh series took place in the pokemon world?

Vrains has been on my Brian a lot. And it’s the time of year the Merlin haunts me. And so I present to you a Vrains Merlin Au.

Yusaku is born with magic (his link sense in canon) in a world where practicing magic is a death sentence.

When he is 16 he is sent to live in Den City (Camelot) where he lives Kusanagi Shouichi. The castle cook. (We are switching up Gaius role here) and his little brother Jin.

Jin works as a servant in the castle and Yusaku came across him while he was being pushed around by the prince and his knights. Yusaku stepped in earning Jin’s admiration and Kusanagi’s thanks (leading to Yusaku living with them) but as the annoyance of the prince, Ryouken.

Prince Ryouken’s father lead the genocide of magic users for the past 18 years. He was raised to hate magic. He is also the leader of the kingdoms knights.

Later that week the kingdom is holding a celebration for the princes 18th birthday and the extermination of magic. They are attacked by an angry magic user and Yusaku saves Ryouken’s life. (Though no one noticed the magic being used)

This leads to Yusaku being appointed to the role of Ryouken’s manservant.

Anyways if you’ve seen the show you know how the story goes.

Yusaku (Merlin) is trying to keep the once and future king (Ryouken) alove so that he can bring peace to their kingdom. It’s his fate as the two are “two sides of the same coin.” He has to keep his magic hidden and there for never gets the credit for his heroic deeds. Though he and Ryouken do develop a deep relationship with one another.

Ryouken (Prince/King Arther) raised to gate magic but through his life struggles to unlearn the hate he was taught. Learns to care for his people and be a good and just king. Learned how to value people by building a deep bond with his servant, Yusaku. His closest and most important friend. One of the few people who have never betrayed him (or at least he thinks until he learns about the magic)

Kusanagi (Guam’s part 1) he catches Yusaku using magic very early in and vows not to tell anyone. Jin is a magic user to (more on that later) he can’t rat out Yusaku and keep Jin safe. He also doesn’t want to, Yusaku is a good person and the two grow close as they work behind the scenes to keep the kingdom safe. Kusanagi is one of the only people who knows what Yusaku does to keep the kingdom safe and how much he has sacrificed for Ryouken. He starts to see Yusaku as his other little brother and will do just about anything to keep Yusaku and Jin safe.

Jin (morgana) also a magic user. He is terrified of his powers and what will happen to him if he is ever caught. While Yusaku uses his powers to protect the kingdom Jin gets consumed by his own fear and manipulated by other to eventually become an enemy of the kingdom. He believes that I f the Kougami family is off the throne then the massacre will end. He doesn’t understand why his brother and friend don’t agree with him.

Specter (Leon/lancalot) one of the knights under Ryouken’s command. The two become good friends and for a long time he is Ryouken’s only other confidant outside of Yusaku.

Aoi/blue angel (Guinevere) a maid in the palace who becomes a good friend to Yusaku and eventually Ryouken.

Takeru (Gwain/Lancalot) meets Ryouken and Yusaku while they are in a mission away from the castle. He doesn’t know that Ryouken is the prince when they meet. He has a strong dislike of knight, lords, and the kingdom. And while he and Ryouken butt heads he gets along with Yusaku just fine. He ends up helping them and the kingdom not because he believes in the king Prince Ryouken may become but because he believes in his friend Yusaku. Later he becomes a knight, but while he swears loyalty to the crown both Ryouken and Takeru know that his loyalty is to Yusaku first and the kingdom second. He finds out that Yusaku has magic on their first and entire together and upon learning that a) the prince doesn’t know and b) Yusaku’s not sure if the prince would spare his life if he found out. Takeru made himself a promise to always have Yusaku’s back. 

Ai - I’m honestly split. The Ignis might end up being the Druids. A group of Magic users that believe that Yusaku is the greats magic user ever and will work with the once and future king to bring peace. Or he might be the bitter and angry dragon that is trapped under the city. Acting as a guide for Yusaku.

Honestly I like firewall dragon as the dragon and ai as a Druid who is loyal to yusaku but is also angry at the death of so many of his people.

Duel link alt style.

As I get consumed once again by duel links I have thoughts

Since they are now doing alternate art styles I have thoughts.

I think it’s humorous that Jaden has three different playable modes (Jaden Yuki, supreme king, Jaden Yuki & Yubel (season 4)) like ya all three could have been alt styles but I like having so many deck slots for some of these characters

It is strange that Rio and Marin (Zexal) are two different character slots when all that changes visually is the name and that she is now frowning, while Soulburner and flame is just an alt style to Soulburner’s character but what do I know.

Duel Monsters Cast

Anyway. Since the DM characters are all getting alt styles let me shout into the void what I want for other characters.

Yami, Seto, Teá all got “urban” versions. Yami got his “date” outfit. Seto got his season 1 outfit. Teá got her battle city fit.

I’m sure Joey will get an alt style. Most likely either his duelist kingdom outfit or battle city outfit.

Tristian will probably get his battle city outfit to.

I would love for Yugi to get something but I doubt he will since he was almost always in that school uniform.

I saw talk online of Mai getting her dark signer outfit and that would be really fun.

The big one that I really want is Atem. I’m honestly shocked we haven’t gotten Atem in his Egyptian outfit as either a character or an alt style.

Honestly give Yami, Seto, Ishizu, and Grandpa Muto an alt style if their past life. Pharaoh Atem, Priest Set, Priestess Isis, and Shimon. Make it a whole event.

I’ve seen some talk online about Syrus getting an alt style for his obelisk blue uniform.

I thought about Chazz getting his original obelisk blue suit as well. Then someone online brought up that Chazz, Alexis, and Bastion could get alt styles for the society of light outfits.

The one I really want is Dark Jesse. Either as an alt style for Jesse or Yubel.

First off you did connect the dots.

Second enjoy my shower thoughts of who in the Gx crew would eat a duel monster.

After all if the school had been stuck any longer in the ulternate dimension they would have run out of food. Yes the duel zombies were a bigger problem but we are focused on food right now.

I think the group would operate under three rules

They won’t eat monsters from anyone’s deck. Two close of a relationship. Imagine suggesting to Jesse that you want to eat one of the Crystal Beast. He’d stab you.

No humanoid monsters. It feels to much like cannibalism, I feel like most people would chose the more animal or plant based monsters if given the option.

No poison types creatures. This is more just practicality and world building as I don’t think anyone in the group (minus maybe Jim and Axel) would know how to prepare an animal that had venom sacks.

“I’m not eating that” the least likely to eat a monster spirit.

Jesse/Johan - has to close of a relationship with his monster spirits. What’s to be a bridge between human and spirits. Has a strong moral backbone. Will probably do it to survive. (But must be starving to do so)

Chazz - has a collection of weak cards since season 1 that have hung around him, making it very hard to find a low level monster who’s spirit has flown around his bedroom

Will do it to survive but will throw a fit about it.

Alexis - horrified but willing to do it to stay alive. But will hold out as long as possible

Syrus - grossed out. Like Alexis he will hold out as long as possible but in the end if it’s the only choice he will eat monster.

True neutral

Jaden he doesn’t want to eat spirits. But once the idea is brought up he’s not completely opposed. Honestly he might be a little curious about what some of them taste like… don’t tell Jesse

Will eat a monster spirits

Jim - most likely his idea. “We’re part of the food chain now”

Axel - a survivalist at heart. Will eat what he needs to survive

Zane - “they’re weak” the Kaiser is going to dominate anything in his way. If he needs food well it’s just meat is it not? (His deck is all machine so he never had to think about eating his own creatures.

Aster - he’s a survived in his own right. He couldn’t broadcast that he was eating monster, but he has no reason not to (his monsters are all humanoid and aren’t on the menu)

Hasselberry - he’s part dinosaurs. He’s going to be pumped to eat monster spirits. He’s also going to be pumped to make fun of Syrus.

Atticus - he’s a weirdo. He’s down for almost anything. He’s hostly probably the one going around trying to convince the group to try weirder and weirder things.

Bastion - he was in that dimension all alone for a lone time and then stayed behind to live with Tania. He’s eaten monster before. What else is there to eat? Even the animals in the dark dimension would be a monster spirits.

We are going to follow our rule of rare Pokémon only. So shiny or legendary

To be honest I always saw torterra as Emerald turtle. I gave the Gx crew pokemon teams years ago and I remember giving Jesse torterra all the way back then.

Second is shiny Drednaw

Why? Well green turtle. However I don’t think this is the best one. Tortoises can’t swim so I’d like for its pokemon stand in to not be a water type.

@shinydmoon reminded me that Terapagos exists.

And would you look at that jeweled turtle/tortious.

We are going to try our best to keep to the only shiny/legendary rule we have bet I’m not going to lie to you. This is a hard one

Once again I think this is a situation where the none shiny (right) fits the color palette better then the shiny (left) but I don’t think it’s the best fit overall all.

Finally an orange boy!!! @shinydmoon had the big brain idea to make it and alpha. Double rare! Shiny and giant.

Mammoth’s are the ancestors of elephants (or at least in the same group) and Great Tusks is the ancestors of Donphan. Though I do with it was more orange (side note what is up with almost all the elephant pokemon shinys being green???)

Let’s start with Crystal boy Jesse

Obviously Ruby is an Espeon. I don’t think there is any debate there. I mean just look at them

I also feel really good about shiny Braviary for cobalt Eagle as it is the Eagle pokemon and it is blue.

That brings us to another point. I feel that Jesse’s team needs to be “rare” as the Crystal beasts are rare. That means all shiny/legenday/mystic pokemon. (Except Espeon who is to perfect a fit. It’s shiny is green and breaks my color palette)

Now onward to the ones I’m not so sure about. @shinydmoon offered some great suggestion and I have some of my own ideas but let’s open this to the crowd with a series of polls

Who would be the best Sapphire Pegasus. Pokemon doesn’t have a Pegasus pokemon. (For years I bemoaned that they had no dolphin and we got one in the last gen os fingers crossed we get Pegasus soon) so for now we stick to unicorns

There are three options for sapphire Pegasus

One shiny Kanto Rapidash

Now obviously the problem here is that for some dumb reason even though ponyta’s shiny has blue fire they switched Rapidash’s flame to a grey purple color. Which is not the best match

Shiny Galarian Rapidash is the next option

It has the blue color scheme and the white coat

The final option is Glastrier as it is also a white and blue unicorn

I know what I’m leaning towards but…

I’m sorry I’m so absent. I really want to work on Yugi adopts Jaden but I’ve been super busy at work.

I promise to push out some content as soon as I can.

That being said, question for my Pokemon au. I want expand outside of vrains. Have all the protagonist journeys happening near the same time just in different regions.

Problem for Jaden

His team is going to be big. A set of the elemental hero’s and a set for the Neo sapacians.

But let’s start with my boy Winged Kuriboh. What is the pokemon equivalent of a Winged Kuriboh?

Look at him. He’s perfect!

But he comes down to three things.

Fuzzy/Brown

Round (or your could say rotund)

Can fly.

There are plenty of pokemon that fall into one of the three categorizes. Some that make it to being in two of the categories but the ones that are in all three categories are rare.

(If I had more time I would make a Venn diagram)

But here are the best options.

Starting off with Eevee

A fan favorite for a reason and a secondary mascot for Pokemon much like Kuriboh is for Yugioh. I’ve seen a lot of art through the years of Jaden as a Pokemon trainer with an Eevee at his side

But alas it cannot fly. Next option

Hoothoot

It is brown and it is rotund. So that’s two points in its favor. It’s also got huge eyes.

But it is not fuzzy!!! Kuribohs are fur balls.

Next shiny Starly

When it’s a shiney it’s brown and can fly. But I think I’ve given Jaden a Staraptor before as a flame wingman or avian. I like him with starptor but maybe not starly at least not for winged Kuriboh. I don’t see his winged Kuriboh stand in evolving.

Next Rowlet

So rotund!!!!!! And a starter pokemon??? Also that meme of rowlet facing Groundon and looking back at the player like “why am I here????” I feel like winged Kuriboh gets thrown into a lot of places he shouldn’t be.

Lastly shiny Rufflet

Look at him. He’s brown! He’s fluffy! And he can fly!!!! He’s even got the claw feet (all the birds on this list do but look at my boy!) I think he’s a great candidate.

But one problem is Jesse’s team. Jesse has cobalt Eagle. Bravery is the Eagle pokemon. And shiny bravery is blue. Meaning both Jesse and Jaden will have a shiny rufflet at some point in their journey.

Now solutions. Keep Jaden’s a Rufflet forever and have Jesse’s be evolved by the time the boys meet. And if Jaden’s does evolve have some shenanigans happen that it evolves into hisuian Bravery. The fluffier of the two.

But what do you think?

For Vrains how do you feel about Aiballshipping?

I’ll be honest. I still need to finish vrains. I’ve been so busy with work I’ve had almost no time to focus on anything creative.

I think it depends on how you view the Ignis.

They were a basic program that gained free will from watching these children suffer. How each child handled their torture greatly affected the personality of the Ignis that watched over them.

Now this is where perspective comes in. Are the Ignis extensions of their origins? Can Yusaku ever be complete without Ai by his side? Did the creation of the Ignis free will come as the cost of splitting these children’s souls? Are the Ignis a part of them?

Again this is all perspective. Because Ai and Flame both help their origins regain parts of themselves they lost in the incident. And by the end of the series I don’t think Yusaku wants to exist without AI. After all he’s looking for him.

But is that romantic?

Again that depends on how you look at it. I totally see why people ship them. And in all honesty I’m not set on any Yusaku ship (I’m a multi shipper) convince me of a good plot and I’ll give it a shot.

But out of the three ships I look at for him (datastorm, firestorm, and Aiball) I gravitate towards Aiball the least.

Yusaku and Ai defiantly love each other.

But I think a big part of Vrains is family relations. Colter and Jin, Emma and her brother, Aoi/Skye and Akira. Family kinda drives the shows conflicts in a lot of ways. Even Roboppi calling Ai big brother.

I think Vrains is all about connections and the importance of relationships and how they affect you.

And I wish we could have seen more relationships between the origins and their Ignis. We get Ai and Yusaku whose relationship is the backbone of the show. Them learning and growing together as a team. We get Takeru and Flame. Flame helping Takeru over come his trauma and step into himself. The. We get the opposite in Lightning and Jin. With Lightining using him as a meat puppet. He obviously cares for Jin in his own twisted way.

(Again what are the origins to the Ignis? Can they truly exist without each other? The origins seem to be able to exist without the Ignis but could the Ignis function without their origins existing? I had the thought while watching that the Ignis we stuck with what they learned from 6 year-olds and obviously they matured over the 10 years but do you think they would ever need a “system update” do you think they’d have to regularly check in with their origins to learn more? And if so once the origin dies can the Ignis continue to grow without them or do they stagnate? Questions I have)

But we never see Earth and Spectra together which is crazy because these are two established characters with a very important connection that is never explored. By the time we meet Aqua’s origin she’s been removed from the story to basically a plot devise (I get they wanted to give Blue Angel/Girl/Maiden more involvement but she’s not an origin and we never get to see aqua interact with her origin. And we never even met Windy’s origin.

For a show that wants to push the importance of bonds they sure do leave a lot of bonds unexplored.

But anyway to answer your question.

It’s not my favorite and I probably won’t write it as part of any of my au’s but I can see why people ship it and it can be fun. I just have a prefence for datastorm and firestorm.

Which is crazy because I got into the show after a Duel links even with Souldburner and Playmaker having a moment. Shipped it. Started the show. Realized the popular ship was Datastorm. For the majority of season 1 sat there like y’all that fees like a very toxic relationship. Then I finished season 1 and started season 2 and actually saw Ryoken’s grown and went oh I get it now!

That being said I haven’t got to season 3 yet so we will see if I have different feelings by the end.

Kalin/kiryu is Will -the one who goes missing and has a connection to the dark.

Akiza/Aki is Eleven - girl with supernatural powers

Carly is Max - joins the main cast a little later. Love interest of Jack/Lucas. Also possessed.

Leo and Luna are Erica - the youngest members of the team.

The Gx cast are the Teenagers

This is where things get harder the 5Ds cast works so well. Gx is harder to fit

Part of me wants Jaden and Steve (as he spends a lot of time with the younger cast) but he probably fits better as Nancy. He would be Yusei’s older brother

Wherever Jaden falls will determine who gets what role

Part of me says make him Nancy. The older sibling who’s working on their own version of the problem.

Jesse as Jonathan

Chazz as Steve - starts out as a jerk but is revealed to have a heart of gold

Alexis as Robin - make her and Chazz best friends who don’t date.

Eddie ? Argyle?

The DM Cast are the Adults

Bakura as Joy - seen as a little crazy by the town raising two kids on their own

Yugi and Seto as Mr and Mrs Wheeler - except this time they are active in the plot.

This is definitely a half baked idea. I like the way the 5Ds crew lines up but everyone else is shaky for sure. Any ideas might as well have some fun with this

So I’m obsessed with k-pop demon hunters (as we all are) and I of course was thinking about Yugioh.

As I listened to Free and thinking about Jaden and Jesse. And started playing with the idea of the protagonist being the Saja boys then @kiyouzummd realized a video of the protagonist as the Saja boys and now I gotta do it.

Jinu is Jaden/Judai. Haunted by his prior life.

Rumi is Jesse mixture of good and bad (crystal Protector and Crystal Vagabond)

But what about the rest of Huntrix and the Saja boys.?This is where I run into problems.

I like the idea of the protagonists as the Saja boys. But which ones?

I’m putting Yusei as Abby. Physically the strongest of the group.

If he is Abby and Abby (and Romance) are shipped with Mira.

Aki/Akiza is Mira. The intense one.

Mystery is Yusaku. The only protagonist with a secret identity.

For Romance I’m feeling Yuya. As he is the showman out of the protagonists.

For Baby I have two options

I’m thinking for Gwi-ma doing Atem. The head of the protagonist.

This means Baby can either be;

Yugi - the smallest seems sweet but hits like a truck

Yuma. Then all the Saja boys are from spinoff series.

Zoey is the big problem.

With Yusaku as Mystery, you could pick on of his ships. But I’m in multishipping hell when it comes to him.

Takeru?

Aoi/Skye? - a duel idol the yugioh equivalent of an idol

You could also pull Yuya’s love interest

Zuzu - also a performer and younger then the other two members of the Huntrix team

If you pick Yugi for Baby you could also pick Someone from DM.

Seto Kaiba in this is hilarious but I don’t think he matches Zoey’s energy

Teá would be fun but again I don’t think she’s a Zoey.

I know manga jaden would be separate from the Jaden Muto au due to narrative differences but i find it funny jaden technically has his own Egyptian god card Ma'at

I did not know that that card existed or that it was used by Jaden. Oh this is very exciting and opens up many avenues for me….

So from quick research it looks like Ma’at is the god that weighs your heart to see if you are worthy of the afterlife. An interesting god for Jaden to have a connection to in this story as he pulled Atem out of the afterlife.

It also looks like the card in the manga was fusion summoned using Jaden’s Winged Kuriboh and Chazz’s light and darkness dragon (which doesn’t have a real card in circulation)

It’s also fascinating because if you look at the art

The monster is holding all of the millennium items. Which like that’s a shock to everyone in DM’s systems.

This could be very fun and thematic, but it also has a lot of options on how and when it could fit into the story. Since its summoning conditions are 1 Light Dragon-type monster and 1 Light Fairy type monster, Jaden can’t summon this card with his deck alone. His deck is mainly warriors with 1 light fairy in Winged Kuriboh, he doesn’t play any dragon cards It has to be done with the help of someone else. Lucky for Jaden many of his family members play Light dragon-type monsters.

Getting Ma’at

Jaden gets it when he is still a child. I’m still trying to figure out where I want the child arc to go. I know it ends with Yugi, Seto, and Jaden as a family, but the in between is tricky.

I’m thinking about having a moment where Jaden is in danger forcing Yugi, seto and the others into a tense situation. Maybe when they go to face off with however is causing problems this time around, Yugi, Atem, Seto, and Joey are all ready to duel them and they refuse to duel unless they can pick their opponents. The four don’t see a problem with this and agree.

Seto thinks they are going to pick Wheeler (the “weak link”)

Joey thinks they are going to pick him (same reason but he’s ready to throw down)

Yugi thinks they are going to pick Atem (he’s “new” to the dueling scene in this person’s eyes and not as “accomplished” as the other three)

Atem thinks they’re going to pick him because it’s always him.

Imagine their shock and outrage when he picks the little boy in a hat and sunglasses standing behind them with uncle Tristan and aunt Teá. They’re all demanding he picks someone else but the villain is set on the kid. And Jaden being a child is excited to duel. Maybe it’s a situation “magic” where once an opponent is selected they can’t refuse to duel.

The crew take a moment to revamp Jaden’s deck. Kaiba handing over a copy of Blue Eyes (if Yugi and Seto are dating at this point it’s a declaration of his protection over Jaden and how he sees the two as family. If they aren’t dating it’s a declaration of his feelings for both Yugi and Jaden. He won’t let anyone outside of family use that card and he wants Yugi and Jaden to be family.) and he snags Marshmellon from Yugi’s deck (powerful offense and defense.

When he gets backed into a corner in the duel, he was able to get blue eyes on the field along with Marshmellon but not able to win, he draws his next card and it’s Ma’at. No one put that card in his deck. It’s just a gift from the gods. (Gift from grandfather Aknamkanon who’s watching from the afterlife he’s standing and applauding and yelling at all that will listen “that’s my boy! That’s my grandson”)

Jaden uses Marshmellon and blue eyes as the tributes needed to summon Ma’at and win. A thematic tying of both his parent protecting him while also stepping into his own with his own boss monster. It also cements his ties to Atem.

Over all great but if this does happen I think that the Ma’at card disappears after this duel. It came because Jaden needed it but it’s not time for him to permanently wield it.

The return of Ma’at.

The next time Jaden is in need of this card is after he graduates from Duel academy. He and Jesse are together and he’s reconnected with his parents. This might be the grand finally of the tournament arc (or shortly after)

Jaden gets pulled into a tag duel with Jesse or Seto.

(I was going to have it be Chazz make it thematic as it was his and Jaden’s cards in the manga to summon Ma’at but his only light Dragon is armor dragon lv 10 white (his cult dragon) which I don’t think he would use again so sorry Chazz your out of the running.)

But Jaden and either Seto or Jesse get pulled into a tag duel and it ends with Jaden using winged Kuriboh and Seto’s Blue eyes or Jesse’s rainbow dragon to summon Ma’at.

Both are thematically good options.

If it’s Jaden and Seto it’s the final push to heal their fractured relationship. The combination of Seto’s protective dragon and Jaden’s partner into one and it coming out as a ‘god’ card is the cherry on top.

With Jesse not only is it another fusion/ crossover between their decks (rainbow Neos will always be the true fusion of their decks) but it’s also a recognition of Jaden’s place in his family and a ceremonial welcome to the family for Jesse.

This is kinda why I wanted it to be Chazz so he got the welcome to the family from the gods but alas the decks don’t match :(

Either way. Once Jaden uses Ma’at again this time the card sticks around and Jaden can use it whenever.

These are just initial ideas. This is going to be so fun to play with!!!
