The PLC Isn't the Problem: What Engineers Check First
Production stops. Operators see alarms everywhere. The HMI freezes. The first reaction is often to blame the PLC.
But in many industrial facilities, a PLC Communication Error is not caused by a failed controller at all. A loose Ethernet cable, duplicate IP address, incorrect communication settings, damaged switch port, or network overload can create the exact same symptoms.
Replacing hardware before checking the communication path can waste hours of troubleshooting time and increase downtime costs.
The good news is that communication failures usually leave clues behind. Network status LEDs, communication diagnostics, ping tests, and protocol error counters often point directly to the source of the problem.
