NOT an April Fools

This has all happened so fast –

over the weekend my Dad collapsed and got med-evacuated via helicopter to the city hospital here – it’s blood poisoning/an infection – a STAPH infection – and we think it’s probably something to do with (or at least exacerbated by) the two knee replacement surgeries he had last year.

So in last few days he’s been poked and prodded and they had to clean out one of his knees – so that’s a third knee surgery – and then tomorrow they gotta clear out the other one – so that’s four.

He’s been all over that hospital – now he’s in the ICU.

They also have to do open heart surgery all day tomorrow cuz apparently the infection destroyed his aortic valve or something – so they need to replace it because if they leave it it’s life threatening. Obviously, so is the open heart surgery.

This all happened so fucking fast…

My Dad has been this Titan all my life and now he’s disoriented and scared and hallucinating – he’s a strong man but –

Tonight I left work early and my big bro grabbed my lil sis from school and we all sat with him and my Mum – and we just sat and talked and told him we love him..

And as I left I just hoped hoped hoped it wouldn’t be the last time I see him alive – I told him I loved him – and he looked at us all and he said “this is my family.  This is my life.  This is my love.” And damnit I’m crying again – and my Mum and I went to pieces earlier too – and my sister was crying – and even my fuckin brother – John Wayne that he is was crying – and I was looking at him thinking man if you’re crying now I’m DEF gonna cry cuz I’m a fucking care bear compared to you and

Kids this can’t be the end.  This is Dad.  He’s an immortal.  He’s brilliant and ok so he has silly political opinions but nobody’s perfect and he always has a plan and he’s always known what to do and he’s our fuckin rock and I just-

Tomorrow if you kids could have words with your deities, that would be great.  He’s gonna be in early in the morning and all day…

I haven’t been on speaking terms with the Christian god in years but it’s times like these where you start to go CHRIST HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So...I was told that my body isn't actually mine. I was having a conversation with someone about me not wanting kids and my body come up and I told them that at the end of the day, it's mine. What I'm trying to do here isn't complain about it, what I want to say is never let anyone tell you that your body doesn't belong to you. Never let anyone tell you that you can't get tattoos, piercings, change it, not change it or whatever the hell you want to do with it (as long as it doesn't affect your health, please kids, be safe) because apparently "it's not your body". Tell them kindly to fuck off and never listen to what you're supposed to be or do because you are a woman or were born in a woman's body. Never let them convince you that you're obliged to be or not to be a parent, not to do things that will make you happier just because people may not appove. Because at the end of the day, when its all said and done,you're the one bearing the consequences of their decisions, not them.
