i see feminists celebrating the UK gov’s decision not to incorporate self-ID into the gender recognition act, and I get that it’s a good thing, but i’m stuck on the point that the problem isn’t limited to self-ID, it’s allowing a person to alter the sex on their birth certificate at all. All of the harms I see being raised wrt self-id still exist when there are more stringent requirements to changing your legal sex, just in smaller numbers. So I get confused when people on twitter are like, “We did it!” when defeating self-id seems more like winning a battle rather than a war.

I do support prison abolition !!!!!!!!!!!! 100000% !!!! Pls let me know if there is something I’ve done to make u think otherwise! I have read a lot of excerpts of Angela Davis’ work, and I have started reading “Are Prisons Obselete?”. in the meantime, as getting rid of prisons (especially privatized ones) is a long term goal that will take a lot of advocacy + time + changes in leadership , I’ve been putting a lot of work into learning about and donating to mutual aid funds and bail funds.
