Why TV is actually good for you.
We have all heard that watching television will rot your brain or kill your brain cells. In a society where we have access to constant screen time from our phones, computers, and standard TVs, it is easy to get lost in the blue light rather than be grounded in the present. At the same time, I may agree that our minds need a break from being screen slaves. I am also here to tell you that television can be good for you. Yes, I said it; they are not inherently evil.
With the evolution of television and the incorporation of streaming services, there is a plethora of content to choose from. From dramas, anime, cooking programs, and documentaries, there is plenty to learn and grow from. Whether that growth is centered on emotional awareness and understanding empathy or ranges to gathering techniques to use in the kitchen, there is plenty of use you can put these programs to after the screen has flickered off.
In the case of dramas like NBC’s “This Is Us,” you learn that there are plenty of sides to the same story. In case you are unfamiliar with it, this show covers the past, present, and future of the blended Pearson family. In multiple episodes, the writers have showcased how different treatment in the same event to specific children has had overarching effects on how the siblings interact with each other and their traumas. It highlights that while not all things were necessarily “fair” or “correct,” they were done with the best intention and shows that life as human beings are a thousand different shades of gray. This practice then goes on to invoke our emotions and, in most cases, evoke sympathy to another side of the picture we originally had in our minds was wrong.
When channel flipping, you might have come across a cooking show; this is something we can use as a starting point in learning to expand on skills we may not have the time or financial resources to learn outside of our homes. Cooking courses are expensive, I have looked, and for someone like myself, I cannot justify the amount with the always-changing level of the motivation behind my interest. With cooking shows, I can pick up different recipes and, more importantly, see professionals cook and what techniques they use.
In conclusion, whether it is a fictional world or a kitchen that is miles away from yours, you can learn things that better yourself in an enjoyable manner. These scenarios highlight ways to stay rooted in something that focuses on our humanity, like dramas, and bring attention to our ways to reach out to our community like cooking and eating together—things we need in a world in and post-pandemic.

I pray it doesn’t come to that.
When you met a stranger without any good or bad intentions of one another, it becomes a story or more like an interesting fairy tale. You get along, you talk a lot , you hang out with each other, you realize both you and her have the same qualities and personalities of life that no one may/will ever understand. When time flies by so quick you don’t even realize what time or day it is anymore because we are so strong bonded together that not even the world can’t stop us. When you realize that feeling with one another both of you guys realize that you guys are the same exact color of every aspect. Showing your true colors to that person means more than a definition.
