Faerie Politics to Human

Now I hate this type of conversation with a passion; politics have always dragged me through the muck and out the horse’s ass but who’s to say it’s like that to everyone hm?

Fae have been separated into two separate “courts” in human terms. The origination of these courts are from humans but has proven to be quite the picture of balance. The Fae use this system to separate those who have morbid ability to those who are the classical pranksters. Much like it sounds, there seems to be a jovial side as well as our malevolent friends. These two courts, that mind you work like a checks and balances in today’s world, are the Seelie and Unseelie courts. They hold much of the power over Fae hierarchy. Both courts are very traditional in that they rely on blood nobility when there is a need for someone to have say, both enforce their philosophy upon their respective Fae, and finally both hate humanity. The only difference in this hatred is that Seelie will not outright attack humans without a reason, Unseelie will with no regrets.

Seelie Court:

Now, as it sounds, the Seelie court is our lovable, redeemable pranksters. Just as summers are warm, it’s members are associated with the warmth you find as a child in their joyous, carefree frolicking in the meadows near grandma’s house where she just finished baking cherry pies. This court is also called “The Shining Throne” or “The Golden Ones”, keeping well to the name of the court. When there is offense to this court they will warn the offender and offer up a form of repentance. They have no desire to cause any form of chaos unless it benefits them and most often than not their form of chaos in the long run is the most meticulously organized plan of all.

The Seelie Court is run by the queen, the wisest, most jealous, and wittiest out of all of them. She is often the voice that speaks after their long private debates and the final decision maker. It is her duty to hold up the belief in courtesies, tradition, and the promises of favors. As such, the duty to demand payment if any of these are broken from is hers to decide. Alongside her are her most trusted Fae, most often noble blooded, who run many different aspects of fairy life military or otherwise. On another note these sorts of fae are well known for their graceful, elegant natures and features. I push this to the fact most want a far more influential seat within the courts. However, this court does not accept any form of fae that does not have pure fae running through their veins, shouldering them as outcasts whose being is tainted.

Unseelie Court:

Now the Unseelie Court is very much the opposite in behavior. They do not need a reason to strike out at the human populace and they accept all that have some form of fae lineage. They are along the more morbid track of things and will openly speak of their hatred within their slightly riddled words. Some of this court will find an attraction to a ‘respectful’ human and make them pets or stick close to them. They are more associated with the colder months within the year. Much of their activity is recorded at night, their assaults on unwary travelers who just so end up being mentally, spiritually, or physically ignorant. Being the opposite you would believe them to have a separate hierarchy but they continuously resemble one another.

The differences are as if the Unseelie Court is the America’s to their colonizing countries. The rulers of this court can rule for as long as they wish as long as they are in accordance with the rest of the court’s fey; some have ruled for at least 1000 years. They are more flexible in that they allow in anyone with fey lineage that can be proven. As said I don't know who would sleep with the Unseelie considering their looks are not as up to par as the Seelie courts; many of them take on a grotesque form so as to mortify humans while thy commence their assaults.

Now, as much as I love to give these summarized lessons, this doesn't come for cheap. I’d keep an eye open. I have a few friends within both courts and my library is running low thanks to the last expedition. As your handsome, humble librarian, I fare you a well read time.
