You think Eggers would be a good choice for a Carmilla film?
I say this without my 'He's doing Nosferatu NosfeWRONGtu >:c' glasses on: Nah, probably not.
Eggers' whole deal leans heavily on folkloric horror and the grimier, sometimes even cosmic edges of the gothic. He wants zero filigree or sensuality on even this, his horniest film to date. It's messy and unpleasant and devoid of anything that would pass for Carmilla's brand of seduction and plushly bloodstained danger.
If he had a gun to his head to Not Go Crazy with the time period/who and what the characters are, I think Mike Flanagan would be a good pick for the job. The man's great at gothic horror! Great at lesbians! Great at using the supernatural to terrifying effect! He just needs someone with a hardcover of Carmilla to smack his hands away from the script whenever he gets the urge to just cherry-pick names and places and staple them to various OCs the way he did with The Haunting of Hill House and The Turn of the Screw/The Haunting of Bly Manor.
I want to see Carmilla. Not modern Carmilla. Not quirky gay fantasy vampire Carmilla. Not faux retro vintage 80's Carmilla. Not soft pastel period drama Carmilla. Not hetero dude vision cheesecake schlock Carmilla.
I want Carmilla the novella translated to the screen with all the nightmare and romance and fucked up paranormal-edged psychological potency that has been enema'd into the BS Dracula x Mina crap for 127+ years.
