Season 3 Title References
Marlene has mentioned that there are clues in the titles. This is a Season 3 title breakdown. Almost every title is a a film, song or book reference. I found the links, I couldn't fit all the plot summaries or this would be a very long post. But the links are here if you want to look for parallels, in bold.
3x1: IT HAPPENED "THAT NIGHT" = It Happened One Night 1934 film Go read the plot summary here POSSIBLE CLUE: Ali was running off to be with Wren(King) (possibly thought she was preggo) but ended up falling for Ezra (reporter).
3x2:BLOOD IS THE NEW BLACK : I've thought on this awhile. "Orange is the New Black wasn't released yet, so I don't think it's playing on that or any other film or books. I think this is partly Marlene saying Red is the New A Color. (instead of black hoodies) -Emily wears a RED tank top. -Aria is wearing a RED shirt when she finds the earring in her locker. -Ali and Aria trash Byrons office using RED lipstick. -Jenna wears a RED shirt. -Emily remembers Jenna driving wearing a RED coat. -When Ella is answering Emily's test for her, the camera catches this: Question:Headstones shutter-less windows and the red scarf are: a)literary allusions b)foreshadowing what is to come and c) hidden messages to the reader. -Ella marks A. I think of that RED scarf Maya gave Emily…. -Also! This is the first episode we see Mona cut her finger with tweezers. I think her "fake death" was plan started here.
3x3: KINGDOM OF THE BLIND: -Origin- Latin Proverb: Erasus said "In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king". POSSIBLE CLUE: mike once referred to Aria as a cyclops (one-eyed) because she forgot to apply makeup to one of her eyes More likely it's just referring to the fact that Jenna has more info and power than anyone realizes, since she sees more than anyone else because they all assume she's blind.
3x4: BIRDS OF A FEATHER: meaning:People of similar character, background, or taste tend to congregate or associate with one another. Similar Ali and Cece? Look-alikes, act-alikes Wren and Melissa (Black Swan)?(birds) Ella and Ashley (they bonded over being single in this ep) It may have just been direct, Melissa was Black Swan, but I tend to think the titles are often double entendres
3x5: THAT GIRL IS POISON: -There is a book titled this, if it is related, that could be a wild twist! [SUMMARY: Desire Jones is a young, hot-to-trot preteen who lives life on the edge. Abandoned by her mother, she yearns for love and attention. Her uncle shelters her, but life is impossible to bear with his abusive wife. To make things worse, she gets involved with Malik, who shatters her hope and trust by leaving her pregnant at age 13 and infected with HIV. So embittered, she decides to do the unspeakable, purposefully infecting people with her disease. Of course, no one knows of her intent. Will Desire realise the error of her ways before it's too late?] POSSIBLE CLUE: CeCe Drake is referred to as toxic many times often in relation to Ali. (although in this ep we still haven't met CeCe) -Is it a reference to Paige and the drugged flask?

THE REMAINS OF THE "A"- A reference to a book- "The Remains of the Day"
- The best clue I could fin was on the wiki page, from an analysis of the themes in the book:"In common with his other novels, Ishiguro uses the structural devices of memory and perspective within this novel. Past events are presented from the view point of the main protagonist, the ageing Stevens; elements of the past are presented as fragments, apparently subconsciously censored by Stevens to present (explicitly) a description of past occurrences as he would have the reader understand them and (implicitly) to relay the fact that the information supplied is subjective. 3x7: CRAZY: Patsy Cline’s “crazy” is probably the reference. Too many otherpossible references, Patsy’s is the most popular.

3x8: STOLEN KISSES: 1968 French film link here -This is episode we meet Dianne Fitzgerald. -Hanna kisses Wren. -Emily kisses Paige, Paige admits to kissing Emily whie she was drugged.
3x9: THE KAHN GAME: So I typed "con game" into google and this was top of page. Just read it - here This makes me think of Ezra and CeCe.

3X17: OUT OF THE FRYING PAN INTO THE INFERNO: Common phrase - A reference to the girls getting out of one jam just to get into a worse one. Except the actual phrase is "Out of the frying pan into the fire" I believe the writers substituted INFERNO for fire as a reference to Dante's Inferno (link)
3x18: DEAD TO ME: Spencer tells Ali- "You're dead to me already" This book isn't released yet but the plot is uncanny - here
