There were only a few more days until the ball, and Lord Starchbottom was working himself to the bone trying to make sure everything was ready in time. There was still so much left to do! He had to meet with the musicians to rehearse and approve their set list, one of the shipments of decorations was nearly a week late, he still had to buy chocolate for the fountain, and they were still two volunteers short for that date auction- even after Starchy himself had somewhat reluctantly taken one of the slots. The only other volunteer was the Duke, and while he was sure that Humidor alone could probably pull in a high enough bid to meet their donation goal when combined with the ticket revenue, he also knew better than to put all his eggs in one basket.

Starchy sighed and glanced over at his wardrobe for a moment, idly tapping the tip of his quill against the inkwell as he stressed over the preparations; at least he’d managed to get his costume done on time. He’d worked with the tailor for nearly a week, meeting for an hour or two every day after work, and every detail was perfect. The subtle sheen of the fabrics, the way the colors complimented one another, and what he thought was a tasteful amount of glitter... it was a masterpiece, just as he knew everyone else’s costumes were sure to be as well. Why, it would be almost criminal to let all of those outfits go to waste after people had worked so hard on them! 

Filled with renewed determination, the aide turned back to his work, racing to complete the ledger before his meeting with the musicians that afternoon.
