born on july 3rd , 1998 to maria & tony del vecchio , two high school sweethearts , marco was born into a world of chaos . aside from narrowly being born in the backseat of a cab on the ride over to the hospital & his own father being too inebriated to even be in the delivery room , chaos has always been an overtly common theme in the del vecchio household .
maria & tony met in none other than the bronx . maria , the eldest & brightest daughter of two italian immigrants , had great plans for herself after high school . she often dreamed of becoming a doctor one day or doing something to assist those in need . growing up in the bronx , she witnessed several things that caused her to grow up before she even lost all of her baby teeth . she doesn’t like to speak negatively about her childhood upbringing or even tell any of her five children that their grandfather was apart of the mob . she much prefers to pretend that everything is fine , even when her father was killed at the tender age of thirty - six .
tony , on the other hand , didn’t have any grandiose plans for himself . unlike maria’s parents who constantly pushed her in school , his parents were never around . as a result , he got mixed in with the wrong crowd by the age of thirteen . but his bad boy exterior is one of the two reasons why a young maria d’angelo fell for him .
she was fifteen & he was seventeen . he was narrowly avoiding being expelled from high school while she was fighting her way to stay at the top of her class . they met through a mutual friend , after maria bothered said friend endlessly , & she immediately fell in love . if you ask her , it was literally love at first sight .
within a week , they went on their first date & by the end of the month they were dating . admittedly , she was apprehensive about bringing tony home to meet her newly widowed mother & protective brothers . however , maria ended up inviting tony over to her house for sunday dinner to meet her family . her mother , alessia , was appalled upon learning that an italian boy from new york couldn’t speak a word of italian . but after some arguing at the dinner table in a language maria’s boyfriend couldn’t even understand , she eventually came around the idea of her daughter dating tony del vecchio . after all , he was italian & that’s all that mattered to the immigrant .
by the time maria turned sixteen , she found out she was pregnant with her first child ; a daughter . neither of them were prepared to be parents , but with her strong catholic upbringing maria couldn’t bring herself to terminate her unplanned pregnancy much to tony’s dismay . the entire time she was pregnant , she stayed in school & promised her family that she would go on to graduate high school despite being a teen mom . however , that all changed as soon as her daughter was born .
maria soon dropped out of high school in the beginning of her junior year in order to take care of her daughter . although tony had miraculously already graduated high school by this point , he was never around to help his girlfriend or their child . he was always out partying with friends & maria felt as if she couldn’t say anything about his destructive tendencies since he was the one supporting their small family .
nearly a year after she dropped out of high school , maria was pressured into marrying tony by her mother . now that she was eighteen , she was finally of age to marry her boyfriend . she insisted that she loved tony . after all , he was & still is the first boy she has ever loved . however , she was pressured by her mother into marrying him since it was breaking her heart that the two had a child out of wedlock .
tony did not have enough money to get married . he was barely making enough money as a drug dealer to support his family . given , he was spending most of the money he was making on himself . he had to support his own addictions somehow , right ? & even when he wasn’t blowing thousands of dollars away on alcohol & illicit substances , he was gambling it all away or even using it to solicit prostitutes while his girlfriend & daughter were at home . wanting to better her own family & preserve her strict italian values , his mother - in - law gave him $10,000 for the wedding .
the two eventually ended up getting married at maria’s church but tony spent most of the money on himself , unbeknownst to anyone . although they couldn’t afford a honeymoon , they did celebrate their wedding in style . that is , if you count having drunken sex in the bathroom at the bar as celebrating in style . marco was conceived on his parents’ wedding night & whether anyone believes it or not , he was actually planned . neither of them were perfect parents by a long shot , but they did want to expand their family . maria , especially , wanted to have a boy who would one day bear her own father’s name .
& that’s how marco came into the world approximately nine months later . named after his infamous mob boss grandfather , marco anthony del vecchio was born on a sweltering july day , just one day before independence day .
of course , his upbringing was dysfunctional . his father began working less & spent more time sleeping off a binge on the living room floor of their one bedroom apartment ( think frank gallagher ) . since he was succumbing to his own vices , maria had no other option but to work . with two children under the age of four , she began working like a dog . it started off with one job , washing dishes at a cuban restaurant down the block . but with two children & rent to pay , she had to pick up another job . & before anyone knew it , two jobs turned into four jobs . maria was constantly working herself to the bone in order to support her family since her husband was not picking up his own slack . she hardly even saw her kids , leaving them to be watched by their father who hardly even paid attention to them .
his father’s lack of parenting ultimately led to his older sister looking after marco . & eventually , more del vecchio kids were added into the mix . after marco came another daughter , & then another son , & even another daughter . with five children living in a now three bedroom apartment , they grew up wanting to look after one another since they all knew their father couldn’t do that for them .
despite marco’s sister taking care of him , he eventually became the protector of the bunch as he got older . he was protective of everyone . his sisters , his brother , & especially their mother . one of his earliest public school memories is a group of boys insulting his mother’s young age & marco beating the crap out of them despite being outnumbered .
much to his mother’s dismay , it was never rare for marco to get in trouble at school . he was constantly fighting his classmates , no matter how outnumbered he was or how big they were . he never hesitated to throw the first punch & he always made a conscious effort to win every fight he started . when he was twelve , his mother sat him down after the principal left the room & begged him not to fight anyone else for her own sanity . she made him promise that this would be his last fight . but when marco reluctantly informed her that the reason why he got into a fight is because they were insulting her of all people , she said she didn’t care . all she wanted was to make sure he would stay out of trouble , silently fearing that he would one day grow up to be like his own father .
aside from tony being a no good addict who was more or less absent in his children’s lives , he was abusive . he was abusive towards his wife & to marco as well . marco can’t thank his father for much , but he can thank him for teaching him how to throw a decent punch .
one night when he was sixteen , his father’s abuse got out of hand . after watching him break glasses that they already could not afford in the kitchen & threaten maria with a kitchen knife , marco jumped in between the two . he knew that if he didn’t step in on time then he would have killed his mother . what happened next is still a blur but it ended up with tony being hospitalized after his own son had beat him so bad that he spent nearly half a week in a medically induced coma .
this one altercation led to marco being arrested for battery where he was eventually put in juvi for six months . juvi did not change him how most people would expect it to . he became more rough around the edges & vulgar after spending half a year with felons . he knew that not everyone there were bad people & he actually made some of his best friends there # goals
his own family was not able to tell just how much juvi changed him , but it’s better off that way . his father eventually ended up moving out & would come back every now & then just to sleep on the sofa . but he did make sure not to put himself in a situation where his own son could possibly kill him , even though he deserves that .
after he was released from juvi , marco’s mother wanted to find healthier ways for him to channel his rage . after several trials & errors , they found two things that stuck : boxing & ice hockey .
of course , marco ended up falling in love with ice hockey . he was damn good at it & wasn’t shy about it either . he was so good that he ended up being scouted by nhl coaches when he was just seventeen & a year later he was drafted into the nhl by the los angeles kings . they all knew about his past but they saw potential in him that they weren’t willing to waste .
marco has lived in los angeles for the past three years & has used his fame & fortune for good . he moved his entire family out to la , leaving his dad behind ofc . & put them in an actual house & made sure his mother would never have to work a single day in her life .
now , he is living his best life in la playing hockey . he is easily known as one of the most , if not the most , aggressive player in the league but that’s a title he wears proudly . he may be young but he gets better everyday & there’s no knowing where he will end up in the future .

i don’t know how to put this poetically but marco is 100% a shit head BHCJKSDFSG
he is very loud , impulsive , & gives absolutely zero fucks . he does care about his family & those closest to him , but other than that he can’t be bothered . so if you ever want to complain about your problems to him , he will be no help & not listen !
he is very much inspired by carl gallagher from shameless but as i was writing this & seeing marco’s future flash before my eyes 🥺 i came to realize he is a hybrid of both carl & lip . if you’re not familiar with either character , just know that he is violent & vulgar . he may come across poorly more often than not but he does try to do good believe it or not . it’s just that all he knows is being bad & he really can’t help himself by this point .
i wouldn’t say he is mean & trying to fight everyone 24/7 though BHJCKDS at first glance , he may be rough depending on who he is interacting with but otherwise he is pretty kindhearted & arrogant .
he is a complete fuck boy & i already hate him for that :/
i’m sure he has had a few seriousish relationships throughout his life but he hates being tied down more than anything . sometimes he blames it on his career but it’s really because he’s young & wants to enjoy the life he has right now .
with that being said , he is most definitely a heartbreaker . just think about the scene in keeping up with the kardashians where everyone threw their drinks at scott because that’s marco ! since he does have bad intentions when it comes to his romantic life , he likes to fuck up things on purpose . whether it’s through cheating or even ghosting , he likes to watch things blow up even if it does fuck him over in the end .
i’m sure one day he would love to settle down & have a family of his own but that’s just not in his cards right now BJHSDKFS

110% has a heavy new york accent that will stay with him forever .
he is also a partier & got involved in the scene not too long after he got out of juvi . but now that he has money , he is able to afford party drugs & does them every time he goes out . he does know how to control himself but he is twenty - one & gets out of control more than he cares to admit .
one of his biggest fears is turning into his father . whether it’s being an addict or having an unplanned pregnancy , he is sure that he is most likely to be the one that will end up like him out of all the del vecchio children . after all , marco resembles him the most .

marco is also a huuuuuuuge adrenaline junkie . he is constantly chasing that high & nothing seems to ever satisfy him . that’s why he loves to drag race on highways , beat up security guards , whatever . he will do just about anything to end up in the backseat of a police car with handcuffs around his wrists . but he has never been to jail since turning eighteen & it helps that he’s one of the most famous hockey players around at the very moment .
speaking of hockey , he was named mvp after his first season where he took them to the stanley cup finals despite most of the team being injured .
he somehow has never had his teeth knocked out . he has , however , broken his nose twice & his jaw as well .
since marco is extremely young & was drafted right out of high school , he was not greeted with open arms . his teammates did try to fuck with him once but it ended up with an eighteen year old marco punching the biggest player . after that , they didn’t dare to fuck with him after that . but that doesn’t mean opposing teams don’t shit talk him & try to provoke a reaction out of him by making comments about his age which always always sets him off .
