Cracking the Case | Myungsoo x Jinki
Jinki quickened his pace when his watch indicated he had only a couple of minutes to reach his destination. He had tried multiple times to convince his boss to send someone else to get the evidence box, but the man wouldn’t listen. It was as if he knew about the assistant’s past and instead of sheltering him from it like everyone else did he was just throwing him into the arms of his childhood demons… or more like teenage demons.
When he was a child, policemen (especially his dad) were heroes, gods. They fought the bad guys, put the gangsters behind bars, brought justice to the world. He looked up at his father and his biggest dream was to become like him… now his biggest nightmare was to become like him; a man who valued his career over his family, a man that sent his wife and son to the other side of the country “because they were in danger” (more like because they were a danger), a man that had destroyed the life of his offspring.
His heart was filled with disgust, dislike and a general feeling of distress when he walked into the police station. As he stepped through the large, glass entrance doors a familiar smell of burnt coffee, old paper and sweat filled his nostrils. A smell that once was soothing and homey, a smell that once reminded him of a safe haven, now triggered only painful memories and saddening images of a once happy life with his father.
Times had changed.
But he couldn’t let the emotions get the best of him. He had to prove his dad that his idea of sending his son back to another city was wrong. He had to show the older man that his life was in Seoul now and that he was sick and tired of letting the other man control his life.
After checking where he needed to go on the large signboard next to the glass entrance doors, the young lawyer assistant walked up the stairs to the designated level and searched for the man he was looking for. He asked the woman who was sitting at the desk closest to the hallway and she directed him to a young man who was sitting behind a desk filled with large piles of paperwork.
“Excuse me, are you Lieutenant Kim Myungsoo?”
