Headcanon

Jane will retire before Maura, not because she wants to but because she has too. In her downtime, she'll practice the piano and gain dexterity back to play. One day Maura will come home and be greeted by Jane's music.

Maura would make a pun about being called Dr. Death during sexual activities because the French euphemism for orgasm is “la petite mort” or the little death.

Plot twist

One night, after an incredibly emotional and draining day, Maura goes to Jane's apartment to check on her.  She uses her key, calling the brunette's name.  When she makes it into Jane's bedroom, she finds the woman curled up in a ball, with the sheet pulled tight around her, cheeks stained with tears, eyes red.  All Maura does is place her bag on the dresser, remove her shoes, draw back the covers, and snuggle up behind Jane, who turns and allows Maura to envelop her with a comforting embrace.
