I've taken a liking to seeing myself as a retired guard dog. As a protector, my caninehood is intrinsically linked to my system role, but we aren't in the circumstances that formed us anymore. I don't need to be perpetually vigilant; I don't need my life or my identity to revolve around danger anymore. That history is still part of me, and I can absolutely still bark and bite when necessary, but it's not my job. It's just something I spent a lot of time doing, and now I'm on to other things.
