was he being  rude  ?  perhaps.  was  he  entirely  justified  ?  absolutely.  holmes  does  not  stomp  away  no  matter  what  anyone  says  &  finds  a  corner  off  to  the  side  where  he  can  stare  at  the  surrounding  streets  without  laying  one  eye  on  any  of  the  flies  swarming  in  towards  the  body.

ah. it’s cold.  to  the  point  that  his  breath  is  coalescing  into  puffs  of  fog.  really,  molly  does  like  the  winter,  he  could  just  do  without  all  the  cold  parts  of  it.  it’d  be  much  more  enjoyable.  he’d  be  able  to  stay  out  longer,  enjoy  the  time  of  the  year  where  it’s  dark  after  five  &  spend  more  time  in  his  glittery  dresses  &  ensembles.

molly  sighs.  he  could  be  nice  &  warm  in  his  apartment  instead  of  the  parlour,  but  he’s  closing  up  today  &  he  can’t  blow  it  off  for  a  fourth  time.  three  times,  sure,  &  no  more  than  that.  he’s  inconsiderate,  not  a  monster.

a watchmaker.  perhaps  it’s  not  entirely  unexpected.  julius  refuses  to  let  that  one  incident  where  percy  accidentally  on  purpose  completely  brutalized  their  father’s  pocket  watch  because  of  his  curiosity.  he  had  fixed  it  eventually,  but  no  one  seems  to  remember  that.  even  his  father  would  take  it  out  on  occasion  &  give  him  a  teasing  look  (  *  while  never  lifting  his  expression  of  neutrally  stern  )  before  moving  on.

❛ you’re  always  so  studious,  cass, ❜   percy  says  by  way  of  greeting,  closing  the  door  to  the  library  behind  him.   ❛ even  i  don’t  spend  that  much  time  here  &  i’ve  read  most  everything  here. ❜  most  of  everything  that  intrigued  him,  anyway.  he’s  stolen  all  the  books  on  celestial  for  himself  &  they’re  in  a  neat  stack  on  his  desk.  the  books  about  farming,  managing  an  estate  &  actual  accountancy  ...  well,  that  was  always  everyone  else’s  purview,  wasn’t  it  ?  julius  is  to  inherit  mother’s  position  as  guardian  &  vesper  already  laid  claim  to  managing  the  mines.  percy’s  had  a  cursory  interest  in  the  alchemy  behind  distilling  residuum,  but  he’s  always  been  more  interested  in  his  inventions.
