Restuffing (and Final Thoughts)
At last I was able to wrap up this big project with a full-body transplant of fresh Poly-Fil stuffing!
I started with his body and head, and made sure to do a little something special to preserve his original spirit...
I made him a heart and filled it with his original stuffing!
(I used the handful of his original stuffing that I mentioned cleaning in previous posts to ensure that he wouldn't bring anything nasty into his fresh body like grime or dust. I also made sure I had far more of his original stuffing cleaned than I would need, just in case. It's better to have more and not need it, than to need it and not have enough!)
I put his new heart in his chest and carefully stitched him back up!
With that, it was just a matter of restuffing the rest of his limbs, and then he was finished with surgery!
I'm very glad to be finished with this project and to finally have my beloved soft toy back and in a properly huggable state again! And honestly, I feel like I learned a lot during this whole process, which I can keep with me moving forward and apply in any similar future projects.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out! His face and ears are a little stiff after all the work I did to them, but I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope that it's just because the fabric is brand new and he hasn't had any significant cuddling yet to provide any natural give to it. I'm also not 100% satisfied with the way his face looks, (due in part to the difficulty I had working on the tough machine embroidery of his eyes, and partially to the backing fabric I applied being a little too stiff and pushing his face to be more cone-shaped than I'd like) but I'm hoping that this too will fix itself with wear.
The only other thing I want to do is get him a new ribbon for his neck (which I hope to acquire in the coming days), and once he's got that (and accumulated some casual wear as I mentioned above), I'll post some better photos of what he looks like now, so you can see how far he's come!
Thank you for joining me on this journey! If you have any questions or comments for me, I'm open to sharing more about my experience working on a project like this and answering any questions you may have! :)
I hope you're all staying safe, happy, and healthy!
