This came across my Facebook timeline today and I felt it poignant enough to reshare here. I often hear the phrases “transing our kids” and “trans agenda” get thrown around by TERFs and conservatives, with the implication that trans people are out here trying to convert people to be like us. There is this idea that being trans is a social contagion that can be infected onto children, and that we want the whole world to be like us. This is the same language that was used against homosexuals 20-40 years ago, but now repurposed against a new target. Let me be clear: I would never wish anyone to be trans, this is a shitty existence and I would never want to MAKE someone transgender. Thats not how this works. If you’re trans, you were always trans, and you just didn’t have the language to see it. That is why I am visible. Not for bravery, not for spite, not because I want to make more people like me.
