As crazy and unbelievable as it may sound, 2020 was my best fundraising year ever!!!

Back in March, when the Covid-19 hit the fan, I had my doubts about fundraising for 2020. I didn't think I would even raise half this amount. Yet here we are and I have you to thank for it!!!

Thank you all for believing in the cause and for donating during this most difficult year.

I am now looking forward to 2021 and hopefully rejoining all my fellow riders on the first weekend of August.

The Reimagined PMC Weekend is now fading into the past, however the fundraising continues.

I am happy to report that I have raised more than last year, however I am still shooting for that $10,000 goal I set for myself for this year. I am less than a thousand dollars away.

Marty’s Reimagined Pan-Mass Challenge Ride

It has been over a week since the "Reimagined" Pan-Mass Challenge weekend and I am surprised at one thing in particular. I am surprised that during this Covid-19 crisis and tough economic time that my fundraising has actually increased over last year! 

I am pleasantly surprised I broke the $9,000 mark :-) This is incredible in light of the fact that I have about 30 donors from last year who have yet to donate this year. If I add up those 2019 donations, it would be an additional $2,100...

Now We Ride – Physically Separate But Together in Mission

The weekend is upon us! It won't be the same as in years past, but it is here. I am still committed to raising funds for Dana-Farber and my goal of raising $10,000 is almost within reach!

PMC Reimagined: The Ride

How will I be riding this weekend? I will still be riding 110 miles on Saturday and 80 miles on Sunday. I'll be riding with my PHAT Tuesday team captain and a few others on custom routes that start and end in Franklin.

Throw Back Thursday: 2009

PMC 2009

About this time 11 years ago I rode in my first Pan-Mass Challenge. I wore a CamelBack. I had no idea that I wouldn't need it because the ride is so well supported. I also had no idea just how much fun one could have riding almost 200 miles in one weekend!

In this picture I am about to ride my first Pan-Mass Challenge. Since then I have...:

...logged over 2,000 miles riding the PMC.

...raised almost $85,000 for The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

...had a number of friends and family lose their battle to cancer.

...made a lot of new friends!

It has been quite a journey and one that I plan on continuing.I plan on riding the PMC for as long as I can meet the minimum fundraising amount each year (or I can longer ride). After that, I will volunteer, but that will be a long, long, way off.

I have been fortunate that I have had a solid base of donors who also believe in the cause. This has been a tough year for many reasons, however the search for a cure for cancer goes on and the funding is still needed.

So please, if you are able to give, please do so. If you cannot this year, I understand. And if you have the capacity to give a little more than you might normally, your generosity will make a tremendous difference this year.

Wednesday: 72% Towards My Goal!

It is Wednesday morning prior to the “Reimagined Pan-Mass Challenge Weekend” and I have seen an inflow of donations this week! I am happy to report that I have reached 72% of 2020 goal of raising $10,000!

For the first time this year I feel the goal is within reach!

Seeking repeat donors from 2019,2018,2017...

I know it is within reach. If everybody who donated last year, who has yet to  donate this year, donated exactly the same amount, it would be an additional $3,070!

In addition, if everybody who last donated in 2018, who has yet to donate this year, donated exactly the same amount, it would be an additional $1,900! 

In addition to that, if everybody who last donated in 2017, who has yet to donate this year, donated exactly the same amount, it would be an additional $1,655!

All three potential donation totals amount to $6,025!

Dana-Farber Needs Your Help, Now More Than Ever...

It has been a difficult year for all charity fundraising. There are a lot of causes out there that are suffering. The Jimmy Fund is the charitable organization that provides funding for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and I imagine they are facing the same difficulties everyone else is facing.

The Jimmy Fund solely supports the fight against cancer at Dana-Farber. Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community efforts to help save lives and give hope to cancer patients around the world. An official charity of the Boston Red Sox, Pan-Mass Challenge, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and Variety Children’s Charity of New England, the Jimmy Fund is an American favorite.

From the Jimmy Fund’s Website [COVID-19 Fundraising Update]: 

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has tested us at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund, our community of donors and supporters, and our nation in unprecedented ways. As we confront this COVID-19 pandemic head on, we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our patients and families, and of our entire workforce. Cancer patients can be at higher risk, so we need to be especially vigilant in reducing exposure to COVID-19 at this critical time...

The Pan-Mass Challenge represents 57% of The Jimmy Fund's annual fund raising. The Pan-Mass Challenge is committed to continuing support for The Jimmy Fund.

The normal PMC Weekend events are not happening, However riders are still committing to raise funds for 2020, and also riding in some fashion. The minimum commitments have been waived along with the registration fees for "Virtual Riders". “Virtual Riders” are people who would have normally volunteered this year (~5,000 or so), or have ridden in the past, who have signed up as virtual riders and raising funds. As of this post just over $19,000,000 has been raised. It's a lot, but it is far short of the $63,000,000 raised last year. 

We still have a lot of 2020 left to raise funds.

My goal is to raise $10,000. I’m almost halfway there.
