2022 In the Books!

Hot!

It was a hot one this weekend! Some reports had the heat index over 100 degrees F as we got closer to the finish!

Despite the heat and high humidity, I, along with my PHAT Tuesday PMC Teammates, completed 2 days of cycling. 109 miles on Saturday and 76 miles on Sunday.

Saturday we rolled out at 5:30 AM and finished just before 2:00 on Saturday Afternoon. It was hot!!!  Below is a picture of myself and my teammates at the finish :-)

Sunday we rolled out at 5:11 AM and rolled into the Provincetown Inn finish line just after 11:00 in the morning!

Donations Rolled In!

A good number of donations came in over this past weekend and the week leading up to it!  Since August 1st, I have raised an additional$2,178!

This has pushed me past the Heavy Hitter milestone of $9,500

and also the $10,000 milestone!

This marks the 9th time (and 8th time in a row) I've reached Heavy Hitter Level and the 5th time I broke $10,000!

I couldn't do this without your support. So from the bottom of my heart I thank you for supporting me, The Pan-Mass Challenge,  and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!

Today I will rest and recover a bit, and I will also get started on compiling a video recap of the weekend. Stay tuned for that :-)

PMC Weekend is Here!

The Weekend is Upon Us!

I’m reaching out as I prepare to ride in the 2022 Pan-Mass Challenge on August 6 & 7 to raise funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 2022 has been another unprecedented year, and it’s abundantly clear that we can never take good health for granted — that’s why our ride and the fight against cancer is more important than ever.

My PMC ride is making a difference in the lives of patients at Dana-Farber and around the world. The funds we raise support the innovative work of doctors, nurses, and scientists in their search for cures for cancers and related diseases. Dana-Farber is one of the top three cancer institutions in the world, and over the last 10 years, has helped develop nearly one in four FDA-approved cancer drugs in the US.

This year, I have set a personal goal to raise $15,000.00 and 100 percent will go directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Admittedly it is a stretch goal for me, but it's time to raise the bar :-)

Bringing a Friend Along For the Ride

This year I am dedicating my ride to a friend and former colleague who passed away this past May: Currivan Alouidor. I will be thinking of him and other friends and family who have lost their battle with cancer.

Training During a Heat Wave

Heat Wave Riding

It was a hot one this past weekend here in Massachusetts. The best way to get a training ride in when it gets this hot is to start early, REAL early. 

On Saturday morning I met up with 3 of my PHAT Tuesday teammates and headed out for a 40 mile ride at 5:30 AM. We were feeling pretty good around mile 30 and decided to tack on more miles. We finished up the ride at a local cafe here in Franklin, Birchwood Bakery & Cafe, for Iced Coffee drinks. It was a good way to wrap up the ride before heading to our respective homes.

In the end, I wound up riding 62.5 miles before 10:00 AM! It was a good Saturday morning :-)

NOTE: 5:30 AM is also the time the PMC rolls out on Saturday morning from Sturbridge, MA in less than 2 weeks. I feel like I am ready, however I still want to get some more miles under my belt.

Donation Numbers...

So far this year I have had 75 people donate to my ride. I am grateful for those donations. For the past 5 years I have been averaging 117 donors per year. To hit that average I would need 42 people on this distribution list to donate.

There are over 110 people on this list who have donated in the past. The average historical max donation from this group comes to $100, with 16 people donating $200 or above at some point. That's a lot of potential donations yet to come in for 2022!

I'm getting caught up on my Thank You cards.  Today's mailing represents just over $2,400 in donations that came in since the last week of June!

Fundraising is coming along at a good pace (better than my training), but I can still use your help to get closer to my goal before the PMC Weekend (8/6-8/7). 

Last year I was able to raise nearly $4,000 between mid July and PMC Weekend. If you can help me beat that this year it would put me well past $10,000 by PMC weekend! That would put me at 2/3's of the way to my goal!

3 More Fridays! (Another Milestone Crossed!)

3 More Fridays!

The Pan-Mass Challenge weekend is approaching fast! Hard to believe there are only 3 more Fridays until PMC Weekend. That means only 2 more weeks of training plus one week of rest & recovery before the big ride!

40% Milestone

As of this writing, I have raised just over $6,000 and crossed the 40% milestone for my 2022 goal of $15,000! I still have quite a ways to go, however I am raising money faster than I was at this point last year. That's pretty good as last year was another record breaking year for me :-)

There have been some amazing advances in gene targeted therapy for cancer that your donations have helped fund. Let's keep it going!

Bella Update

Last Radiation Treatment for Bella

Yesterday, our 2022 Pedal Partner, Bella, underwent her last radiation treatment for her osteosarcoma. After this treatment she was off to Dana-Farber for more platelets.

In other news Bella has also just recently celebrated her 15th birthday!

Congratulations on both!

The Pan-Mass Challenge is One Month Away!

June Totals

June was a good month for fundraising with a nice little surge for my birthday! An additional $2,400 came in bringing my 2022 total to over $5,000!

The PMC is only 35 days away and I am really looking forward to the first complete PMC Weekend since 2019! Only 5 more weekends including this weekend for me to log more miles so I can be ready for 2 days and ~185 miles of cycling.

July is also typically my biggest month for fundraising. I am curious to see how close I will get to my goal by the end of the month. Today being July 1st, it would be great if there were a few donations to help get July off to a good start :-)
