no because even though there's so many things I dislike about aya there is one thing. one thing that absolutely baffles me every time. I get that this was meant to be a cutesy lowkey depressing rom-com esque episode but WHAT.

when Phineas finds out from Nana Shapiro that Isabella is leaving that day for college, he immediately runs to the restaurant and when Vivian tells him that she left already, walks back home dejectedly.

the most obvious problem in that moment (for me, at least) was that Phineas Flynn, extraordinary inventor, our "the only thing that's impossible is impossibility!" dude, just went "oh no she's gone ig I'll never get to tell her that I'm in love with her too :(" I think that might just be me but that has always seemed out of character to me. but then-

may I remind you that Phineas and Isabella canonically have cellphones? BOTH OF THEM. technically, couldn't Phineas just have called Isabella and asked her to come back and see him before leaving so he could talk to her privately instead of the sequence we got instead (not necessarily complaining about Isabella coming back on her own and the little "oh my gosh it's you" longing stares we got but they could've had them reunite quicker with potentially more screen time for the confession)?

but even then. Baljeet used his cellphone during aya I'm-

now I'm not saying that the kiddos would voluntarily put themselves in the path of Isabella's rage by telling her that they kinda sorta let one of her biggest secrets spill but seeing that almost everyone was acting out of character in this episode anyways they actually could've gone down that road if they wanted to Baljeet really couldn't have called Isa or texted her? just a simple 'hey phineas wants to talk to you about something' instead of having all the gang go and plan a date without Phineas and Isabella's inputs?? he really couldn't???

basically in short they all have cellphones and they could've just used them to directly communicate to each other this entire time and ajbdkahfkahfm thank you MML for rendering the timelines so that this was just one confession possibility

Legitimately, this is the one scene from “Act Your Age” that absolutely made me cry, and it was followed by this.

Like…that feels like a giant slap in the face. Isabella is imagining herself in a very painful situation and the episode felt the need to jangle keys in our faces anyway. Mind you I love this image out of context, but it loses its effect IN context - these versions of Isabella and Buford are SMILING while serenading that Isabella is ill and miserable. It’s not enough to turn me off to the song but like…Yeesh. This episode was MEAN to Phineas and Isabella for literally no reason but to create drama.

Part of me feels like AYA was more of a mockery of Phinabella than an actual celebration of it. It constantly tormented Phineas with the fact that EVERYONE but him knew, Isabella was ultimately not allowed to be the one to tell Phineas the truth, and even though they got together in the end it was rushed and they barely interacted in the episode. My OTP deserved BETTER.
