I cut my hair last year. It was thick and wavy and down to my hips. But it was making me dysphoric and I was really annoyed by it always. I miss having people braid it but I raised $2015 for cancer and cut off nearly 3 feet of hair for wigs. I don't regret it. And whenever someone asked me why or got weird about it I just said that I cut it for cancer and raised two thousand dollars and they generally shut up.
