At 33 I’ve been playing Pokémon since the beginning, my grandmother gave me copies of Pokémon Red and Blue for Christmas 1996. I stayed hooked through Gold and Silver (my personal favorites) and Ruby and Sapphire. The last game I played at release was Leaf Green, and I never made the jump to DS, though I never lost my love for the franchise. When I saw the release announcement for Let’s Go I was back in, I needed a Switch, I needed to get back to Kanto. I played it with a smile on my face, filled with nostalgia, the updated world they had crafted was accurate, but it wasn’t perfect. I played Sword and enjoyed it more than a lot of other long time fans seemed to. But there was something missing every time I came back to visit the world of Pokémon. Then I bought a Bittboy PocketGo, I loaded up Pokémon Red and there I was, 10 years old, sitting next to my best friend at lunch, adventuring through Kanto with my Squirtle. So while Pokémon has evolved the same way that it’s titular Pocket Monsters do to appeal to new younger generations, I still feel comfortable with shades of green, the first two generations are where my childhood lives.

I suppose I have no point, just wanted to share my thoughts as I take an adventure down memory lane with old friends.
