Dedicatory Address
Many emotions surge in our hearts and many thoughts strive for expression tonight, as we, the senior club members, review the thirty years of anticipation of this hour when we might claim a solid structure as our Club Home and dispense forever with our House of Dreams. Three years ago -even so short a time as that, we did not foresee that we were to be led out of the wilderness of our roamings to and fro from your house to my house, into the paradisiacal abode of our club Home.
This edifice was built several years ago with no thought at the time that it would ever be used as a community center. The material used in its construction was selected with care and was of the finest and best. The house itself had a plan of spaciousness, sightliness and stability. The ownership of the place changed more than once before it became the property of the Woman's Club, Incorporated, but who shall say that from the moment the foundation stone was laid by Dr. D. J. Loring, that this stately building was not intended for its present ceremony and the future use and purposes of the Valparaiso Woman's Club? Even in affairs that are purely local in character, as well as in those events that affect a nation or the world at large, we like to think that there is a Supreme Mind that directs and decides ultimates.
