Being Indecisive About The Direction I Want to Take (Wordpress or Podbeam)
Good afternoon Muselings!
So yeah, I’m being completely indecisive about the direction I want to take with a fledgling podcast I’ve been slowly developing.
Just like with Youtube, I’m by no means a stranger to podcasting. I hosted my first podcast back in 2010 with a co-host on Blog Talk Radio, back when it was reasonable and somewhat accessible.
I miss podcasting and I’ve been working on making a new one to start podcasting again. In fact, several people who know me and have been watching my Youtube videos for years now, regardless of which channel I was on, are existed to hear that I’m going to be podcasting as well.
As far as a podcasting platform only goes, I’ve been eyeing Podbeam a lot lately. Out of all of my options, it seems to be the most accessible and easy to use, more or less. Anchor is another possibility, though the fact that Spotify bought it out recently means I’ll never touch Anchor with a thousand foot fucking pole. Seeing how I hate Spotify with very fibre of my being with the passion of an infinite suns and would love nothing more than to see it burned to the ground.
On the other hand, I’ve also been meaning to create my own all purpose website for a while now. Especially in regards to offering semi professional to professional divination.
Wordpress caught my eye there. I mean, I use it more often than just anything else, and I know I would be able to do so much with it and get so much out of it if I build an actual website from iit, using one of their premium plans.
For one thing, I could host all podcast episodes and videos, among other things too, on there.
Problem is, however, Wordpress doesn’t offer monthly plans, so I would be paying 300 dollars straight up if I went with that option.
I also tried looking at other website building platforms and the plans they offer at various pricing, and I’m a little disapointed. Wix came close, but they don’t offer unlimited storage, which is an absolute deal breaker for me. Weebly could probably do it but I tried Weebly once, had a website on there back in 2013 to 2014, and my experience with them was so terrible that I’ll never ever give them another chance.
So at the moment, it looks like I can pay the monthly plan of 14 dollars a month to build a podcast with Podbeam, or, I could go ahead and pay the 300 dollars to start building a website from Wordpress.
If I go with the Wordpress option, things will be tight for me for the month of June, though I’ll still be able to make it through with only the essentuals. But doing so will also cause me to have to put back replacing my laptop another month or so. At this point it might be November or December before I can replace this laptop with one from Apple if I went with this plan. The current piece of shit laptop is still holding together and I think I can make it last until the end of this year, though most likely no later then that.
What do you all think I should do? Should I try building a website even though things will be tight for the month and and will most likely cause me to wait longer to replace my faulty laptop? Should I take the short term hit for what might allow me to do a lot more than I can now in the long term? Or should I just settle for making a simple podcast with Podbeam and get on with it already? I mean the podcasting aspect of thigns is what started this whole thing but there are several things I want to do that I have in mind. I’m just not sure what decision to make and which path to take. Any opinions or advice any of you would be willing to give on this?
